To which I can only say, SON of a beeyatch.
ANGEL has been great: they provide outstanding customer service and they allow vast leeway for faculty to customize their courses. The system has clearly been designed by and for the people who actually use it.
I expect all of that to change now that Satan owns my favorite CMS.
Die, Blackboard, die!

And we are in the process of switching from WebCT to ANGEL. Ooo-yuck, as my kids used to say.

Someone commented on the article using a Borg reference, and another suggested the new name for their product should be "Dark Angel." Quite apropos!

First it was Wolfram and Hart, now it's Blackboard. There's not much moral difference, if you ask me.

I'm sure W&H have some stock in Blackboard.

As a Blackboard user who has always been jealous of Angel users, you have my sympathies.

I was also shocked to hear this. My college just selected a new CMS, and I was on the committee. They went with Bb, but I was one of few loud, dissenting voices in favor of ANGEL. I've moved forward with a good attitude, but I've had fun ribbing my colleagues anytime there is any kind of speedbump related to Bb.
On the positive side, if we had went with ANGEL, I be lookin' like a major fool now.
Corporate c*cksuckers. I just hope they can assimilate the ANGEL gradebook, discussion tool, and L.O.R. quickly so I can use them.

I have never used Angel, but it sounds like people love it. Out of curiosity, what do people love about it? What features does it have that make it so great to use?

I like the gradebook, discussion tool, and most importantly the LORs. (LOR=Learning Object Repository. Among other things, this allows you to edit/replace a file, and have those edits/changes transfered to every location where that file exists. Example: you have a file that includes your plagiarism policy. You post this file in the syllabus section of each of your five online courses. Within each of these courses, you also post this file, as a reminder, in every unit that contains an essay assignment. So you have this file posted in, say, twenty-five locations. With an LOR, you change the file once, and that changes it in every location. Without an LOR, you need to go individually into each of the twenty-five locations to upload the new version of the file.) Our Bb sales reps and sales presenters were not knowledgeable and told many outright lies. One of the main reasons our committee chose Bb was because they assured us that uploading a WebCT course into Bb was effortless and everything would magically appear in the right spot. Not so. It is such a mess that you are better off building a new course from scratch. Our ANGEL reps were much more knowledgeable, specific, and honest.
