My place has a rule against this.  My last place fired someone, mid-term, for doing this.  And we haven't offered $38K for a tt job to a social scientist holding a PhD in 10 years, and we're in flyover country.

I'm in Florida; we set the bar for low-balling new TT hires ($40,000/year, 4/4 load at some of the private colleges out here.  It's not pretty).

To the OP, yes, check with your college/uni first.  Some places allow it as long as it doesn't "interfere" with your duties, but, as someone on the tenure track, I don't see how you'll have time for this while still being able to keep up with your main duties (i.e. teaching, research, publishing, committees, etc, etc).

But that is 40K Gubment dollars... You are not counting the Sand Dollars and Sunshine that they also tell you that they are paying you when they make you the offer... AND no state income tax!

Even Rain is "Liquid Sunshine".

Coach - don't do it.  You want tenure.  Don't lose sight of the golden egg.

A friend of mine is doing this right now for just one semester.  His second school is 75 miles away.  I am not sure if he is breaking a rule but he suspects his department head is not happy about it.  His first job is not TT.

I think it would be better if you found some part-time gig not related to academia.

Good god, man, why would you ever contemplate such a thing?  Are you so hard up for cash that you need to moonlight?  Wow, makes me count my blessings.  This has got to be a violation of your contract, if you are at a public university certainly.  Why would you risk it?  Please do tell.
