I know what you mean. Preparing for next term is horrendous. I also ended up with a last-minute research trip immediately before the start of term. Gulp.

I'm trying to establish a sane schedule on a daily basis to make life easier and more balanced. That seems to help keep me sane more than vacations and the like.

Other thoughts?

I'm still up for a vacation . . . someday but must agree that fine-tuning the schedule is really important.  Also, self pep talks.

So go us, rah rah, and all that.

I got an appointment request today for my "find out if I get tenure" meeting.  So, it's set.  Now I have the two weeks between now and the meeting to try not to think about it.

Wow...why so fast?

I'm come to the realization that if I remain an academic in the UK I will have to pull a pile of major research grants in order to get myself out of the crippling admin loads they assign here. OR, I'll have to move back to the US.

Its a bit grim, but at least I know what my options are. It makes me feel much less settled/stable though.

I should hear on my probation (UK's closest equivalent to tenure) shortly. It sounds like its going through with no issues at least!

It's an accelerated clock.  A little scary, but with rampant budget cuts and general political scariness, I get the feeling that our whole system wants to tenure as many as possible before the shoe drops.
