I am just about to graduate from Boston University School of Law and am thinking about applying for a Ph.D program in political science (Fall 2010).  I am only considering schools in the New York City area and have yet to take the GRE.  Assuming I do decently on the GRE, I am wondering if anyone knows 1.) the likelihood of my being accepted to a program 2.) the likelihood of obtaining funding.  I went Michigan undergrad and had a GPA of just over 3.5, my law school GPA puts me in the middle of my class.  Also, does anyone know the quality of programs at CUNY or the New School?  Thanks for any advice!

A lot depends on what sub-field of political science you want to focus on--are you thinking American politics, Con Law, international relations... ?

The answer to that question will help to narrow which schools would work best for your interests.

IMO, doing a PhD directly after a law degree without working for at least a couple years after law school will not look good.  It screams avoidance / indecision.
