My depression seems to be lightening, but I'm still bloody unmotivated.

I used to feel very good in the spring and early summer but for the past two years, I've slipped into a bad funk in April and stayed there until October. It's not as bad as a major depressive episode but it still sucks. I'm deeply unmotivated, have been taking two naps a day, don't much care about the nice weather or upcoming social events. No tears or irritability, just a deep sense of lassitude. I'm on Cymbalta but I think that's just keeping me from getting worse...and I slept through an afternoon appointment with the psychiatrist today. Last week, I added SAMe and fish oil. Fingers crossed that they help. PsychDiva is a psych wreck.

I just reread this, PyschDiva...I hope you're feeling better now.

ThunderingM, who wrote the book you suggested?  I did a quickie search on amazon.com and the results weren't as self-explanatory as I a supposed.

Which reminds me: not directly related to depression but still helpful to me, one of my favorite all time books is Lawrence Gonzalez's Deep Survival: who lives and who dies and why.  It's a really interesting exploration into mind over matter (for those times when the depression hasn't quite taken complete hold---or maybe even has, hard to say).

Well if exclamation marks are any indication of mood lifting, you are on your way, Z. ^_^

It's a small kingdom but someone's got to rule it.

Zara, thanks. I was able to get out of bed this morning and get to the office, which counts for something. How are you doing?

Thanks for the above, Thundering.  I meant to say the Solomon was the book I have (and really enjoyed).

I was wondering who wrote Off the Map

That's good, PsychD!   Got to keep patting yourself on the back for anything you get done, no matter how small some part of your brain might be saying it is.

I have been feeling better since about the 2nd week of May--had a challenging week about 4 days into housetraining my puppy, but that was mostly the lack of sleep.

The one thing the puppy is doing for me is forcing me to adhere to a schedule and get exercise, even if it is only walking around the block with lots and lots of stops.

Oh, sorry. It's not a book but a movie, directed by Scott Campbell, with Joan Allan, Sam Elliott, JK Simmons, Jim True-Frost, Valentina de Angelis . 2003. An Indy flick. I won't go into all the layers that make it a very satisfactory viewing for me.
