Hi there, I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience teaching with kaplan university. Are they hard to get on with?

I've heard that they're very easy to get in with due to a high rate of turnover.  Apparently, they require their employees to constantly participate in unpaid training.  I know that they require you to participate in non-paid online training prior to getting classes scheduled and even after the training there is no guarantee you will be assigned a course.  Pretty corporate, as most for-profit colleges are. Classes are pre-designed, which means you're basically just facilitating the course.  If you need extra cash it might okay, but I wouldn't it use it as a resume builder.

Might want to check this out first --> http://www.complaintsboard.com/bycompany/kaplan-university-a29054.html

Thanks so much for your response. At this point I am really looking for some experience teaching online classes. I have a bachelors and masters in psychology and just starting my PhD in clinical psychology. My work experience has involved being a behavioral health counselor, teacher at a elementary school, and management positions. In my search for looking for online positions I see most ask that you have experience teaching online courses with a minimum of two years. Do you have any suggestions on how I would go about getting experience teaching online or any online universities that are less concerned with this?

Take a look at this blog.  It's updated almost daily with online adjunct teaching positions.  It may be of some help.  Kentucky Community & Technical College System (KCTCS) has an online branch.  I'm not sure what kind of experience they look for.  It may be worth checking out.  If you can learn to use Blackboard that will help you in your search. Most online classes use this software or something similar.  Summer openings may be hard to find, as there are less classes, but many schools are scheduling fall classes now.

Hope this helps!

If you're looking to get experience, you should view the "unpaid training" as "free training." They will show you how to use the software and some basic tips for working with students online.
