I recently received an offer for a job at a research institute. We are now in the process of finding my spouse a job. The institute is considering my spouse for a position at the same place (we come from very different backgrounds and fields), although they have not indicated much about what they could offer. They have invited both of us to visit the institute (and offered to pay both of our travel) to have meetings with members of staff at the institute and give us a chance to see the area. Would you treat this visit as an interview? Is there any general advice you would give to us about our visit?

Absolutely treat it as an interview for your spouse, insofar as you can: both of you should dress nicely, your spouse should be prepared to talk about work and the things that your spouse could offer, and so forth.
