I finally finished the exams, yay! 4 Fs? That's a lot for a class of not even 30 people...but if you follow the instructions, this won't happen! I think my very favorite was the student who said that while in the early stages of conquest, Monteczuma and Hernan Cortes "became fast friends." I prefer my friends to not engage in wholesale slaughter, but that's just me!
Only one stack left, but there's not the same rush on those essays, shew!

Ahh, yes. Last semester, I learned that a seventeenth century court painter was in charge of Cuba while all of this was going down.

Count me in on this one too. One class of exams done, one to go. Will be interested to see the statistical distribution on this one.
Then, of course, this all has to go up on Moodle because midterm grades are due tomorrow morning.
Ooh! "Running in Heels" is on. Grading might go a little more slowly for the next 30 minutes.

I just discovered that the bottom 1/2 inch of this pile of papers-to-be-graded is actually a couple of articles I had ordered through ILL for another project.
Oh my.
I think I need to go change my pants.

Done! Exams graded, grades posted, midterm grades calculated and submitted.
Some people will not like me very much tomorrow. I wish I were tenured.

Can I trade? Half the class got a D or F on their latest report. They didn't follow directions and answer the questions that are posted online, in the handout, and reviewed in class. BTW, there are more than 50 people in this class. Guess how many concerned students I now have? Dear Prof, I received my grade for my report and am concerned about not getting an A in your class. Can I come talk to you?

Just finished the last batch of tests. Only took me 2 beers. Drop deadline is in a few days. Some will want to strongly consider it.

Well, after numerous cups of tea, I just finished up the two batches of grading. It's a good thang it's done because now I've got to prep for classes tomorrow.

I am 1/3 of the way through my massive amount of lab report grading. Reminder to self- do not make more than one lab report due on the same day ever again, and this time I mean it. Thankfully, I completed the class of low achievers already. When I grade, I put a paper I know will be good at the bottom of the stack (not alphabetical). This keeps me motivated, knowing that I have a good report to look forward to reading. Of course, this assumes you have at least one student who writes well enough to look forward to reading. I tend to have diverse enough classes that this is always true, or at least relatively true. I also like to set artificial deadlines for myself so I am not grading at the last minute. I have a guarantee to my students on when I will return all papers (keeps me grading, and it makes it easier to support my late policies without student whining). Somehow, when students realize I grade 70 or more reports in a week, the expectation of completing one report in a week seems much more reasonable. Now, if I could just get them to pay attention to the report guidelines and rubric, I could really get rid of some of that whining.

As the OP, I officially extend the Weekend Grading Party . . . for as long as it needs to exist.
Ping! Just caught my first case of plagiarism for the semester. It's so disappointing.

Thank you for this, Senay. I've just started grading my next big bunch-- research paper outlines and mini-assignments-- and I'm breaking out the moonshine or screech for anyone who is so inclined...or a nice Merlot...

I'm falling behind in my grading. I don't promise my students a specific turnaround time (I teach online, and I post one lecture, with associated materials and activities, each week), but I try to turn the weekly homework assignments around within a week, so that they have the last one back (by about a day) before turning in the next one. I'm usually pretty good about meeting this self-imposed and unannounced deadline. But My Better Half was in the hospital last week, so I fell a little behind. Last week's assignment is graded, but I haven't had time yet to post the grades and comments.
I also have staggered deadlines for the students' papers, and the first two batches (about 20 papers) are sitting on my desk. We're on spring break this week, and I want to have everything graded and have the grades and comments posted no later than next Sunday night, if I can, but I'm also trying to get ahead in my lecture prep, because the semester's last three weeks are going to be a real bear, so it's going to be a busy week.
And I know that most of these papers are going to be bad bad bad. Ugh.

Here. I can avoid it no longer. I should have done these last week.
I hate it when students write "I ran out of time" at the end of perfectly reasonable exams as if that is going to excuse them from not studying enough to actually write something.

Me, too, and just wasted the last half hour trying to prove it. Which I can't. The kid failed anyway, though.
