I also need to lose 10lbs. Just went to the doc and was shocked at the weigh-in. I think I get lulled into thinking I'm maintaining when I'm not by wearing the same sized clothes. As everyone knows, vanity sizing means that there is no standardization in women's clothes. I wear an 8. So what? An 8 is an 8. Or a 10 or a 12, depending on the brand. So. I must start weighing again.

A couple of years ago I lost 10 lbs. in only two or three months by doing low-fat with Mr. Undisciplined. He was doing it (Weight Watchers) so I thought, why not? I didn't even give up my evening cocktail. I did step up the exercising, which was already pretty regular (cardio, freeweights, a lot of walking). The focus on low-fat was what made the difference. Lots of water. High fiber, low fat. So I'm trying it again, currently on Day 3 in captivity. YMMV.

Okay, so I'm going to do my gestational diabetes diet again - moderate amounts of carbs, mixed with appropriate amounts of fats and proteins.  But I am going to cheat in one respect - I am allowing myself one drink a night.  I just bought a nice Chianti (no fava beans) and a huge bottle of vodka that is chilling in my freezer.  But I will be good about the breads, pastas, rices, cereals, and potatoes (I'm already good with the sugar).

I am curious about how long people plan to continue with the Nutrisystem diet. Is it something that someone can stay on for a long time? I always hear about the short term weight loss but have never heard of any stories of continued results/maintenance over time. Do you transition away from it over time, and does it somehow become part of one' lifestyle?

I'm not planning on going off it anytime soon. You can stay on it a long time, though, because you have to supplement it with fresh fruits, vegetables, and some dairy.

I wish Nutrisystem would have options for people with allergies.  All their foods are chock full of common food allergens, and that makes them a no-no.  Anyone know of a system that actually works with people with food allergies?  I find myself eating so much junk because "healthy" food has so much stuff in it I can't eat and I run out of time to make it all myself.

I have allergies that are in the top 6 categories of food allergies (soy, milk, eggs, peanuts, treenuts, and shellfish).  These 6 categories comprise 90% of food allergies, but all the diet foods I have seen contain one or many of these categories (I prefer not to get specific, to keep from being identifiable).  Those 6 categories contain many of the "healthier" ways to get protein, so it is understandably challenging.

For me, the problem is that Mr. GP is allergic to nuts, citrus, and most raw veggies.  If you cook down the tomatoes, for example, until they are tomato sauce - then he's fine.  If I try to buy the spaghetti sauce in a jar that has bits of veggies in it - including chunks of tomato, then his throat will start to swell up (thereby causing him to stop breathing).  Some of his family members think that it is just his imagination, but I have seen the reaction when restaurants forget to leave out the tomato (in extreme cases, if his asthma is already flared up, it just takes them putting them on and then pulling them back off without changing out the portion.)

So we don't eat too healthy to start with and then I have the snacks and the junk and...
