Does anyone know anything about combined tenure-track/administrative roles?  There's an opportunity to run a center (as the administrative lead) and also serve as a tenure track faculty member in one of the departments.  How common are appointments like this?  Obviously, some kind of work-load and review structure would need to be put in place.  Does the administrative work replace teaching?  Is the tenure-clock extended?

I need help understanding how this scenario has been crafted by others so that I can be better informed to discuss an opportunity.  Any help is greatly appreciated.
