Also, the OP said he was place bound. Yet still a victim.

Oh, please. We have enough real 'victims' in society, without adding film school PhDs who want to find a job within a 10 mile radius of their house to the list.

OP wasn't trying to learn anything.  OP was just spilling venom against a system which he viewed as oppressive.  No doubt OP is just as angry now as she was then.

You are among the Pure and Truthful, however small their Number.
My goodness, that was an exceptionally good analysis of the forum.

Funny, I'm about to start adjuncting again in a few weeks, and have been seeing it as my exploiting and using the McUniversity, which tries to instill a culture of Teaminess and Loyalty in its adjuncts.  Must be that irrepressible GenXer in me.  You keep the students out of it, that's all -- some of them are sincere and trying to get somewhere, if totally clueless about universityland, and they're the ones being raped for tuition by the McUniversity, which will leave them with a worthless degree.  In other words, you actually teach them.  But you use the McU for a dollop of money when and if you need it, and blow them off as they try to get you to take classes you don't want, don't find convenient, etc.  And you never ever ever let them start turning you into a mentor for new adjuncts.

Same thing with freelancing.  Actually I'm in a good situation now with that -- my big client's gone under; the wildly incompetent out-of-state parent company's shutting it down.  Thanks to recent changes in my state's law, it looks like the parent co's going to have a very tough time showing that I was a contractor and not an employee.  (Reading state code can be lucrative.)  So I've filed for unemployment, and we'll see what happens.  If I win the round, I'll be up as much as $7K for the year. Best part: I get to keep my friends from local client company, because I'm not threatening their jobs.  The parent co screwed them so thoroughly they're happy to help anyone attempting to screw the parent co back.

But yeah, OP, you need another skill.  Your adjunct spot's not going to grow wings and turn into a  butterfly.

OP really expects a film studies TT position to open up in their neighbourhood? ... That's like expecting your financial worries to be over because you bought a metal detector and thoroughly expect to find solid gold roman coins in your backyard.

...seriously, move to Belfast (its an amazing city)...

OP is still frustrated but not angry.
Instead of fuming, OP is exploring new options.
Happy now?
I'm convinced this forum exists simply for schadenfreude.
