OK, I've think I've read everything but I still confused on one point. How does the OP plan on listing his Amazon.com book reviews on his CV?
Obviously, it goes under the heading Swan Song. |

While his conduct and his interpretation of his own conduct is off base, the OP's concern that "reputation" or insularity or whatever waters down academic progress is not without basis.
However, the way to turn the tides in any academic field is to be respectful of your idiological counterparts, taking care to understand their full arguments. Then you give it to 'em--but you do this with excellent, iconoclastic work. I agree that there are a lot of thinkers that just tow the line to keep their jobs, but there are also those who change the tone and revitalize the field. Not everyone can be a firebrand and not everyone can be a cog. But we probably need both, and we probably have both.

Was she worried she would be seen as a bad teacher if my proofs had any mistakes? Or was it simply bad etiquette to go to the higher-ups without consulting first? I strongly suspect the former and not the latter.
This shows clearly that the name of the game is reputation, reputation, reputation. Going to amazon.com is not going "to the higher ups." Please continue to post as you step on everyone's toes and knock over the display cases in the china shop. It will be amusing to read, although on another level it will be tragic to watch you self destruct. |
