When I arrive for a conference this summer, I am assuming that a taxi will be my best option.  I am working on a budget request now, though, and I don't know what to put down for the expected cost.

Thx in advance.

I've gone to Ibero from downtown but not from the airport. It's way, way out on the far side of town. I'd guess you should leave a little room and put something like $50 down. Are you staying at the Sheraton across the road from the university? I'd call them and ask. I don't think they have shuttles but they'll know what a taxi to the airport costs (it's a nice hotel, too-- good sushi restaurant on the street out front).

Sorry, that's Canadian dollars thinking. Go with about $40. USD

Awesome.  Many thanks for the response.

P.S. With the state of the U.S. economy, who knows?  Maybe we'll all be using Canadian dollars sooner than later . . .

What I did in a similar case: I called the hotel and requested to pick me up for a fixed rate which they told me in an email before I took the trip. Thus, I could calculate my budget easily.

Of course, you could take the Metro and a "pesero" (little vans that run bus-like service) down Avenida Insurgentes.  Metro stops are ideographs (-gram?) and differing lines are easy to follow. Pesero is very cheap cost in few $ (Mexican ones).  Drop off right in front of Ibero. Nice.
Neighborhood NOT nice. My nephew was robbed only four times (knifepoint).  Campus is lovely and most people friendly. Bring your Spanish with you and enjoy!

I do not intend to offend you, but I was strongly recommended not to use  the metro or public transportation in Mexico City; especially not with my baggage, notebook case etc. looking like a tourist.
