Why, hello again, Mr. Migraine! And how are you today?

(Maybe a kinder, gentler approach will make it go away faster . . . )

Ugh. Feel better soon.

Okay, seventh migraine in three weeks. Could it be the anticoagulant I started taking, um, a little over three weeks ago?

I really, really want to write my last lecture of the semester for tomorrow morning. Really, I do. I'm very motivated.

Crap.

Migraine, GO AWAY! Please. Please, please, please, please, please.

I have a lot of work to do, and I actually want to do it.

Please?

I"m sorry, historygrrl. Do you live anywhere near the large low-pressure system circulating today by the name of Beryl? That could be part of the problem.

I also wanted to post to update my previous post (two years ago!) about magnesium. If your physician suggests daily magnesium supplements (which cut the number of my migraines in half), make sure you get the kind of magnesium that is bioactive. Most magnesium supplements you find on grocery store or drugstore shelves are magnesium oxide, which is not very available to the body and you won't notice much of an effect. The kinds with -ate endings (magnesium citrate, magnesium taurate, for example) are easier for your body to absorb.

Also, I heard (and it proved true for me) that you have to give the magnesium a good three months before you can reliably expect results. Besides the reduced migraine incidence, I've found that it also seems to have helped with the uncomfortable "stuck" feeling that I'd been getting in my throat when swallowing pills. That has almost disappeared.

Here's a link to the NIH health sheet on magnesium:
