It's the fine line between saying, for instance, that someone's idea is stupid, and that the person themselves is stupid.

Doesn't fit.

Yeah, I know. I like to live on the edge, and write colloquially.

See? Now, you can say that my grammar is stupid, but not that I am stupid.

Grass: I have thanked you many times earlier. You seem to feel offended and are using explicit language. Sorry to offend.

No, seriously. I had the exact same thought, and am starting to wonder if we're not the same person.

I've seen Fight Club. I know it can happen.

What if we were sincerely negative?

I am not a motivational expert but have done some reading on this. If you happen to be so sincerely negative in your classroom, you are helping many to persist and succeed. Sometimes that sincerely negative input is what the students need.

God Bless!

I have never heard of such a thing as suggesting that negativity in the classroom will help students succeed.  Can you give us a reference?

No. If you can't find one, I'm certainly not going to help you.

ALL OF YOU... GET OFF OF MY LAWN!

Alan

Reverse motivation or negative motivation is used with star  athletes and entertainers all the time. Ever hear of motivation, peak performance, performance cycle, Johari window etc?

I keep waiting for former members of Monty Python to jump in and start singing.

Well, uh, yea-yuh.  And your point is?

What does the Johari window have to do with....

Never mind.  Just never mind.  I get it.  You're studying for your interspersonal communication final.

I'd suggest going over those theories before the test tomorrow morning.

I come out a better informed person because of the post. Many of you have saved me time. Besides I could ask very specific surrounding questions to my post that helped me understand and kept me interested.

So when I thank you it is because you helped me.
I can take some criticism for posing the questions or the post. However, I did ask the moderator to close it but was told that it is a public forum.

Anyhow, I take responsibility for any one getting offended. From this point own, you are on your own and as they say (in some other discipline), rise above the noise. Be mature and move on with more serious posts that help us boost our egos!

PS: Motivation is intermixed with interpersonal skills to make it effective.  I am not taking any examination any time soon. Thank you!
