How quick are Candadian searches, in general? (Or how slow, I suppose?) Is there any rhyme or reason? Do they do a three-week blitz, start-to-finsh, like some countries, or do they follow the plodding U.S. model? Just wondering what to expect from my Canadian applications.

My impression is that Canadian search committees generally follow the same model as the U.S., but are even slower!

That seems impossible.

We can't inform applicants of the result until the department has put forward a recommendation for hiring. Of course, when we do so, we inform successful applicants that this is still only a recommendation and might take 2 weeks to a month for higher ups to formalize the offer.

When I was applying, there was no difference in timelines between the US universities and the Canadian university I interviewed at. Interviewing candidates this year at my Canadian university, I would say the same. In both my search, and this year when I was on the other side, my department had to decide quickly due to other offers involved, and they were able to. YMMV.

My dept just filled two TT positions (neither in my field), and the process went pretty smartly.  In both cases, the last candidate gave a lecture on a Friday, the SC gave the dept its recommendations on Tuesday, and the offer was accepted on Wednesday.
