Sure, I will explain. Throughout this campaign, Obama has presented himself as a uniter, and avoided the sterile culture war debates of the 80s that became the key to success for the Republicans (and sometimes the Democrats). To me the big difference between Obama and Clinton was not their policies, which were damned near identical, but their approach and temperament. When he has taken on the culture war attacks head-on, as he did with in his Philadelphia speech on race, has made it explicit that this is not where his campaign would live. When the right tried to swift boat him, he said, "Not this time." Now McCain on the other hand, and his even more erratic sidekick Palin, have pushed on those old culture war buttons until their hairy fists were bloody from the effort. Obama is a leftist/socialist/scary black guy/Muslim/terrorist/baby killer/communist/separatist who also wants to take your guns, but the way. They have run every combination in the KArl Rove/Lee Atwater play book. And it has not worked. That is the key fact that defines this moment. Oh sure it gets a certain faction of the Republicans fired up--maybe you are part of that faction--but it has not swayed the folks in the middle, the suburban middle class and other groups that used to be susceptible to this stuff. In fact, this time it has back fired on the Republicans. Everytime McCain goes negative his own approval ratings fall, while those for Obama climbed and climbed. From today's Gallup poll: "Obama's favorable rating is 62% -- the highest that any presidential candidate has registered in Gallup's final pre-election polls going back to 1992." http://blogs.usatoday.com/onpolitics/2008/11/final-usa-today.htmlThe culture wars are finally over. The right won a lot of battles along the way, and the harm to this country is incalculable. But the left has won the war, and the country has moved one. And I am so proud of us.

"You asked for comments on a stale 4 year old post from the website of a right wing think tank, that you copied and pasted verbatim. If you are surprised by the comments, then you are either completely clueless or disingenuous, or a snowflake undergraduate."
True it is, for those of your ilk (that is, for obedient subjects of today's dictatorship of relativism, which is thoroughly consumerist at its core), to be "out of date" is to be in hopeless mortal sin. All things must now be "NEW AND IMPROVED!!!" I understand where you're coming from. But please do explain exactly how the post is out of date?
Forgive me. It's true, I am rather dense. Thus I need you to lay it all out for me very clearly.
While jackalope's assertion that the culture wars are now over is quite entertaining, it's hopelessly naive and indeed delusory (though, as I said, entertaining - precisely because of these qualities). As is very common, jackalope here speaks prescriptively, though he thinks he speaks descriptively. Thus I desperately need your help. Thanks.

OK, let me clarify: go away.

What a ferocious attack on straw men. "Hard core leftist" professors? "Porn Studies?" Oh my.
Do you deny the existence of hardcore leftist professors and "Porn Studies" classes? At my left-leaning U, they're combined into "hardcore porn studies."

Jit-sprung, Learn the difference between a polemic and a research article...
Learn the difference between confirmation bias and objective research...
Learn to distinguish between professors who have political beliefs but whose beliefs are irrelevant in a classroom environment; and professors who are unable to distinguish between their class material and their personal beliefs...
And then, perhaps, you may find a useful way to contribute to this board.
Until then, you're an inhuman, unthinking polemical messagebot.

Larry is, of course, correct. Don't engage and it will go away.
note: You can view the op's recent posts if you have any doubt that it is a troll; it might be a troll-person or a troll-computer-program. Anyway: don't bother with it.

And BTW, if you think your pseudo-rightwing regurgitated drivel will contribute anything of substance to this board, perhaps I should point out that poorly constructed arguments regardless of political bent are nothing more than an embarrassment. You are doing a piss-poor job of "representing" the political ideology you barely understand yourself. There are plenty of intelligent and articulate individuals on this board who freely talk about genuine, well-researched conservative and/or libertarian positions on educational issues. You're not one of them.

In other words, you're a leftist with a predilection for coprophagy? No need for all the other nonsense, friend. You could have just come right out and said it. In this shameless age, it wouldn't have been a problem for anyone here. "O shame, where is thy blush?" -Shakespeare, Hamlet
