I've tried Aveda's Dry Remedy and was very disappointed. It did not feel right even at the time of aplication (my hair was "squeaky" after shampooing). I had high hopes because I like the Be Curly products.

I had to buy hair products at a drugstore while traveling a couple of months ago, and found that the Salma Hayek line (I forgot the name, if it has one) works pretty well. I bought the conditioner and leave-on treatment.

Deva curl sells a travel size/trial size set on amazon for around $20. I think I might go for it and see how it goes!

I have now added this to my wish list! Great idea.  Please let us know how you make out with it.

Huh. We seem to be a very redheaded crowd here. I was trying to figure out the other day if red hair and curly hair are correlated.

Interesting question. All I know is that I love red hair. I would dye it like Sideshow Bob if I thought I could do it and keep my job. I can't get it as red as I'd personally like because my skin color would make it look weird, but I do go for reddish brown, and you can see the red pretty well in the sunlight. Red dye is supposed to be harder to maintain; I use a salon shampoo for that purpose. I don't care about the extra upkeep, there's nothing like red hair.

Doing laundry (still)

Melba, putting baking soda and vinegar in your hair is like washing it with salt and lemon juice.  It's harder on moisture/oils than seawater.  It strips everything curly hair needs, out.  A good scrubbing mix for toilets, counters, and some laundry, but not so good for hair.

I like Yes to Carrots products.  Leaving in the conditioner, or not rinsing all the way out is great.  Don't wash more than twice a week.  Once, if you can swing it.  By doing the style change in the video late in the week, this is easy to achieve.

Thank you, BPN. I needed to hear this! Reading all the stuff online, I'd gotten indoctrinated into the notion that baking soda was key to quitting shampoo. I now realize that's not going to work for my hair (maybe once in a while for a deep clarify, but not on a regular basis). Last night I tried using just a little conditioner, and that seems to be a step in the right direction.

For the record, I'm redheaded, also (wavy but not super curly).

I got the Red Letter Warning!

After review of several internet resources, which assured me that it would work, I "washed" my hair with conditioner last night. I styled it by flipping my head over and applying some spray gel and shine spray, then clips at the roots for volume.

2 1/2 hours later, it looked great! Soft, shiny curls that did not frizz or look dirty or "crunchy".

Of course, I was unable to repeat this success this morning, and I am frizzy and largely ringlet-less.

I just don't have 3 hours in the morning to do the whole process. And I don't have enough time at night either- I get home at 6 and go to bed at 9. Plus it never carries overnight.

Ultimately, I guess my hair just says "I don't care enough to do the very best". But it sure looked great last night! I hope the pets appreciated it.

Have you tried putting your hair into a "pineapple" overnight?

Hi zuzu-

It is only just grazing my shoulders...I suppose I could try it with just the top layers.

And plan on never getting laid again.

That's not what I was hoping to hear!  Too bad.  I also dislike the squeaky clean feel of a too harsh shampoo.

I'm completely satisfied with my Deva Curl products so it might be worth it for me to stock up during an upcoming trip to Faraway Big City.  The Deva Curl products are expensive, but I really haven't found anything that even comes close to getting the same result with my hair.

I tried the Living Proof curly hair products - because they are made with SCIENCE! and I'm not immune to advertising - and thought they were pretty good, but the fragrance gives me a headache (as usual).

It's so nice to know that there are other rosaphiles out there. In my youth, I would drool over guys who had red hair, and if it was red and curly, well, it was all I could do not to offer to bear his children.

Ah see, I like red hair on women, but not so much on men. My dad is a red-haired curly dude (although now in his late 60s, it is much lighter and gray). My parents had an Irish Setter when they were younger and the pictures of my dad with the Irish Setter are quite striking. But I like the dark swarthy types myself.

(Oddly, many people seem to consider me as having some red to my hair, but I really don't think I do. Maybe because only I know that my hair is really just mousy brown - highlights and lowlights do wonders for it, especially with all the curls.)

My hair was (before it was salt-and-pepper) dark brown with auburn highlights--an effect I often accentuated with henna rinses. I miss that color, but the upkeep of doing regular treatments to cover gray with a henna mix is considerable, so I made the decision awhile ago to just go natural. At least here in the Midwest, with the humidity, my curl is easy to maintain; the Western desert dried it out and made it stick-like and cranky.

And I'm the same for curly-haired, red-headed women. My friends know the body type I prefer, but only one really knows that body type doesn't matter when I'm looking at a curly-haired, red-headed woman. If she has the preferred body type, too, the rating scale starts at 20 for her and ends at 9 for all the non-redheads.

I've never been particularly attracted to redhead guys - but last year I met one who somehow triggered my "must reproduce with you now" urge for the first time. Our kids would (likely) be just like us: red haired dancing/climbing math people. Now I'm afraid I have a hidden streak of extreme vanity. Luckily he and I aren't very compatible, since my boyfriend would be sort of sad if I had someone else's kids. (Also luckily, I have the most sympathetic boyfriend in the universe. And awfully cute, even without red hair.)

Completely unrelated: Thanks to this thread, I started sleeping with my hair up in a ponytail on top of my head. Now the curls last for days!

Are there dating sites that allow the user to specify the hair color and texture desired in a prospective mate? If not, we may have a great business idea.

I don't know where I got this yen for red-haired guys. Everyone in my family has very dark brown hair.
