Dear friends,

Just started school and am already looking for an internship, at an investment bank, despite the gloomy economic phase we are living through, nevertheless I would like some pointers in utilizing the careers services center to aid my efforts. Its quite daunting and I don't feel confident enough to approach any of my peers, or the careers services manager.
Can anyone help me? What guides should I look at? what are the best online and offline options for me?? How much does the careers services manager know about the recruitment process and so on... Any help would be great.
Ever so grateful,
P

Yikes!  If you are too squeamish to talk to your career services folks, you will be eaten alive in investment banking!

As they say in IB, just pick up the f-ing phone and make that call.

Go to the career center - they are there to help you.  They want to help you!  They're nice!  How much they know depends on your school and on them, but they probably know more than you.

Investment banking internships often go through competitions and have early deadlines - it's probably not a case where you just send a speculative letter and resume in.  Your school might even have workshops on applying to this kind of internship.

Seriously, a book with lists of internships will be much more daunting than the nice people at Career Services. There may be specific internships available to students at your university, there may be job and internship fairs, there may be alumni connections -- they can tell you about all these things. You're looking at a task that can be daunting and occasionally depressing (for even the most confident students). Don't be shy about using the resources that your tuition pays for!

Sounds possibly like a windup to be followed by a link to a website.
