Wow; finances are so bad the institution is going to forgo accreditation? How does that happen? Or is this a specialized discipline-specific accreditation? Anyway, my sympathies. I hope my new institution doesn't suffer a big budget cut just as I get there. A loss of salary would really hurt, considering that I'm already dropping to a lower salary level just by starting at Year 1. |

Haha! I think you've already started on the wine. This is Hiring Freeze, not Jobseekers. (But we love you anyway, PrePhD). On topic, I am mildly curious to know if the schools that told me last fall that they would readvertise their cancelled searches this year, actually will. I am guessing no. Are others predicting more or fewer jobs for this autumn? |

I'll take fewer jobs but more certainty over mid-year layoffs and positions de-funded after interviews have already occurred any day. I also think that the time between funding being approved and hires being made will be dramatically reduced. Be ready to see lots of invitations for interviews NEXT WEEK. I think I need another cup of coffee. |

Yes, searches won't be pulled midyear. They just won't be posted in the first place.
Though (I hesitate even to say this) we have heard that we may get to search for one person. Maybe. If we do, I think we have to swear in blood not to tell anyone else on campus that we are getting a luscious lollipop when everyone else is getting a large helping of sh!t on a stick.

Accredidation requires at minimum 4 full time tenure track faculty in our program - we just went through the preview process and this coming year is the final hoop. But we have one faculty who is retiring, after putting it off for years, and if we don't get to replace her (which at this point seems likely) we can't get accredidation. yes, I think it is stupid. |

I assumed that his point was that just because they're in a hurry doesn't mean that they'll make a decision quickly. But congratulations on the interviews. I wish you the best of luck. |
