I just published my first book review!  It is field changing, no doubt.  If I were to let you read it, you'd never be the same.  You'd never forget where you were whe . . . never mind. 

I've published small articles before and always send everything to my close friends and family.  The big stuff I typically send to my current and former advisors as a sort of "this is what I'm up to" update.  But a book review?  I'm not sure if it is worth running to my advisors over. 

What do you do when you publish something?  Do you send it to your friends?  Colleagues? 

How do you celebrate?

When I was a grad student, I did not promote book reviews to my mentors, even though I thought of them as nice for the CV.  I just don't think a book review is an achievement.  Think of it this way -- if they see it on their own, it will be a nice surprise for them.  If not, they probably wouldn't care about it anyway.

The exception might be if the review somehow touched on the advisors' work or was of research value to them (turning them on to a book they otherwise might not have heard about).

My advisor would have wanted to be made aware, but he wouldn't necessarily have wanted to read it.  I probably just would have mentioned it during one of our meetings and offered to send him a copied if he wished to read it.

Nowadays... my mother likes to read everything I write!  It's so sweet.

I tell / show my boss (for performance reviews), my advisors (so they know what I'm up to), my old advisors from my master's program (to keep in touch), and my mom (because it makes her happy).
