Sorry to chime in late on this thread, but if you're feeling worse at this point, you should definitely seek additional medical attention.

FYI: Dr. House did suffer a blood clot that caused muscle death.  According to the episode "Three Stories," he has chronic pain because of the damaged nerve endings, even though surgeons removed most of the thigh muscle.

A blood clot in the thigh was also covered in an episode of "ER."  As with House's story, the patient was in so much pain that the doctors thought he was a drug user.

But septicaemia/blood poisoning is not the same thing as DVT, is it? Do these conditions also have pain as a major symptom? Are they associated with recent surgery?

No, they're not the same thing.  The first is an infection <snip>

Oh, so maybe that's why my doc prescribed an antibiotic .... Hmmm. Maybe I'm already being treated for this, but just didn't realize it.

The antibiotic is good, and it may be a precautionary measure.  DVT isn't treated w/antibiotics, though - at least, not only antibiotics - so for your own safety, don't let this drop.

Yeah, most of the DVT stories I've read on the web mention mind-bogglingly intense pain all the time ... which I don't have (else why would I be here posting)? It's just that I have intense pain whenever I bend my knee about 90 degrees or more ... when I try to crouch down for example. It feels for all the world like an incredibly sore muscle .. but I haven't exercised at all (aside from walking around) in a month, so it probably isn't.

BTW, llanfair, I spoke with my doc this morning and he suggested I wait it out over the weekend, see what happens, then call him on Mon.

It's back to work now.

Treehugger, how are you feeling now?  Any improvement?

Whatever it was is either going away on its own, or responding to the antibiotics I've been taking. In any case, I'm happy to report that my thigh is doing much, much better.

Thanks all.

Treehugger, I'm very, very glad.  I was worried for you, so it's great that things are clearing up!
