5. Read any Tolkien beyond the first few chapters of The Hobbit when I was twelve or so, which was enough to turn me off permanently

Whew.  I thought I was the only one.

Nope.  My second-grade teacher read The Hobbit to us, but that's as far as I ever got with Tolkien.  I tried to watch the first LOTR movie, but I had to turn it off; I thought it was awful.

Well I loved Tolkien as a kid, but since have grown out of it. I just don't understand how adults can like fantasy (the genre, not the experience).

I have never read anything written by Tolkein.  I tried once, but couldn't really get through the first chapter.  It just did not hold my interest.

I have never stayed up all night, as in didn't go to sleep until after the sunrise, say.

I've probably stayed up to 4 or even 5 a few times, and have gotten up at 2am (to go owl watching or see a meteor shower), but never pulled an all-nighter.

I've never been to Spain, but so many people have said the same that I wonder if that item should be retired from the list.

I've never been to a high school dance.

I've never owned a car with an automatic transmission.

I've done nearly all the other items on the list so far.

I've never watched Lost.

I've never spent a whole night in jail.

I've never been to Mt Rushmore or Niagara Falls. In fact, I'm not entirely sure I spelled it right.

Aw shucks, I just did that last night!  (all night)

The Hobbit gave me a headache.  But I loved JRRT's ideas, so I ended up reading a lot about his work (instead of the primary source materials)...and thoroughly enjoying the various movies.

I never shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die.

I am still young, however.

I read The Hobbit and the LOTR. I tried to read the Silmarillion. No dice. Couldn't sit to read any of it now. Loved the movies.
