I think it debuted here in the spring / summer.

Must have been something else. The Jimmy Choo/H&M collaboration is hitting stores globally today (Nov. 14).  I can't remember what the previous collaboration was this spring, but it wasn't Jimmy Choo.  I don't live in a state with H&Ms, so I'm out, and I've also not been that impressed with the previous high/low attempts.  The Lagerfeld and Commes des Garcons stuff for H&M was OK, but it was much more expensive (without a real corresponding rise in quality) than regular H&M.  I've gotten better deals, and nicer stuff for the same price, from sales racks at high end stores.

Here's a play by play of the madness going down at the H&M in midtown in NYC:

Seems actually a little more restrained than the Jill Sander for Uniqlo funfest earlier this fall.

Craziness! And I feel so unfashionable since I'm not really sure why Jimmy Choo is so fab.

So, as a scientist, I guess I don't belong on this here thread, but it seems dumb to make a separate once for the science chicks among us (and biomancer is here, so she has already gone against the thread title).

Anyway, boots.

It's wet here in winter. I feel like I am going to ruin my cute boots if I actually wear them in the winter. Mine are a leather/suede combo. Am I being overprotective? Do I just put on some of that protectant stuff and go outside? Right now I consider my boots strictly fall apparel before the wet comes.

Yes. But a good pair of rain boots / galoshes is also indespensable.

I'm not a fan of Jimmy Choo or most Manolos.  Both remind me too much of women with impeccably coiffed blonde hair and perfect manicures, and the Real Housewife types.  I will admit that I'd love a pair of classic Louboutin pumps someday.  Alas, I'm stuck with Nine West or worse off the clearance rack from DSW for now.  Except when I hit the mother lode at the Barney's Warehouse Sale, but I even then, I prefer slightly funkier styles.

Re rainboats: I love my Wellies.  I love stomping through the rain, not a care in the world.  It's like being 3 years old again.  Sometimes I wish it would rain more so I could wear them more!

And, speaking of which (although not shoe related, so forgive the slight off-topicness), stylish people wearing expensive trench coats, mostly not in the rain:

Yes, I've gotten to wear mine almost all week, and I take such joy in stepping splashily in big puddles while watching others try to tiptoe around them in open-toe heels. Really? Who wears open-toe heels in the rain in 50-degree weather? Practical much?

On another note, I may have found the solution that allows me to finally enjoy my Danskos collection! Dr. Scholls Gel Arch Support Inserts. Not only have they helped the aching arch problem that I feel when I wear Danskos, but they also sit my foot up a little higher in the shoe, alleviating that annoying rubbing on my achilles tendon. Well, this is only after one day of experimenting, but so far, so good. Hopefully the inserts and the new tube of blister block will get me through my upcoming on-campus interview sans blisters.

So, I have what is probably kind of a dumb question. I've finally bought some blue skirts/dresses to wear for teaching, and my one old pair of blue Hush Puppies with the 1-inch heel just do not feel good on my Dansko-and-Clarks-spoiled feet. I don't really want to run out and buy a pair of new blue shoes right now, so I need advice: do you wear black or brown shoes with blue, and if you can wear either, how do you decide?

I'd go with brown, especially if it is dark or navy blue.  Lighter blues are fine with either one.  (That said, I have some navy cords that are so dark, they are nearly black, so I wear them with black.  Yeah, I'm going rogue).

Oh, the blue question! My lovely pair of Sanitas clogs in navy squeak something horrible, so I will wear brown shoes with blue from time to time. Though if it's a greyish blue, then black would probably be fine.

In other news, the gel inserts and blister block kept me from getting blisters after two days of walking around campus in the previously uncomfortable Danskos. Score.

I wore my Danksos with thick athletic socks for just part of a day and they were OK.. I'll try again in a few days and see how it goes. This week I will check out DSW... I am on the prowl for some Cole Haan Air heels, or whatever they are called.

Thanks, all. I think I have the perfect pair of brown Naturalizers somewhere in the back of the closet....
Prephd, I'm glad you tamed the Danskos! I adore mine.

I usually wear silver or red shoes with blue pants/skirts.

Both of which I covet. My HS French teacher wore silver shoes with everything, and I thought it was so elegant. <daydreams of shoe-shopping> One day, maybe.....

Help!  Does anyone know of a good brand of shoes to fit a normal-width foot with a narrow heel so that the heel doesn't flop off when walking?  I'm usually stuck in clogs or backless shoes unless I get lucky on the fit.
