Right on.

Pregnant women who continue working are terribly selfish, as is any woman who lets ambition get in the way of taking care of babies. Especially retarded babies. I know her husband is the primary caretaker of the children--that just goes against what nature and God intended.

I think my Grape Nuts are now going to be permanently lodged in my sinus cavities.

Ouch.  What a mess.

Turkey vegetable soup here. Thanks a lot zuzu.

Quote from: inthelab link=topic=52909.msg1027014#msg1027014
Her hsuband works on Alaska's north slope for BP when he's not a salmon fisherman.  Sort of hard to get home to the kiddies at night in Wasilia.  DS babies need a lot of rehab, intensive therapy, many doctor's visits, get a lot of upper respiratory infections, often need corrective surgeries.  Would her husband be there to oversee the needs of the baby, most of us I suspect wouldn't be posting.

I heard on NPR yesterday that hubby works only part-time these days in order to care for the children. I guess that's better than nothing, even though we all know that God made women more nurturing and hard-wired for such duties.

Nah, I'd give the trophy to Palin who has managed to make her pregnant 17 year old a national point of discussion.  I know when I was 17 I would have been *thrilled*

I KNOW. I CAN'T believe she leaked those internet rumors about the retarded baby really belonging to the daughter. And then adding fuel to the fire by coming out with that press release asking everyone to respect the daughter's privacy. If my 17-year-old shamed my family like that, I would not be so presumptuous to think I should run for government office.

Kind of like Hillary Clinton--she thinks the belongs in the white house when she can't even keep her own house in line.

Oh and neglecting your 4 month old child with Down syndrome, and deciding to fly on to give yet another campaign speech after your amniotic sac broke and you're in premature labor (bad mother of unborn child award).

Thank you.  It's not a choice; it's a CHILD.

Back to the OP's post:

I don't know. Any parent is going say/do something stupid or inappropriate once in a while. I know I do. I know my parents did, and all my personalities are perfectly well-adjusted.

If a parent continuously loves and cares for the kid, the kid will know it and forgive the rare lapses in judgement. Making the parent over-angst about every little wrong word takes too much away from possible fun-times.

And if the the kid gets treated like a turd over the long run, rare moments of caring and remorse won't help much.

There is also the little matter of the kid's personality. Daughter #2 and I trade insults and hyperbole publicly every day. And she's getting better at it than I am. I worry about her only when she's quiet. I wouldn't think to do this with my hypersensitive book-loving Daughter #1 (and Daughter #2 doesn't insult Daughter #1 either). Son #1 (a toddler) requires frequent spankings to keep him from running into the streets and engaging in other dangerous activities.

If someone would only write The Book on parenting . . .

Well good for him.  That must be a very recent decision.  The news reports I read yesterday still listed him as working as a production manager for BP.  So how part-time is part-time when he's on the North Slope?

My aunt used to angrily exclaim,

"Shut up right now, or I'll rip your lips off and stuff them up your nose!"

That usually did the trick.

She was, of course, a fine woman and a loving aunt.

I was doing something stupid ... I think it involved sliding down the barn roof and landing in a pile of hay. My mother told me that if I killed myself she was deducting the funeral expenses from my allowance.

She was kidding.

I think.

I would have to give SP the parent of the year award for these reasons:

1. She leaked amniotic fluid in Texas, then gave a speech, then GOT ON A PLANE WHILE HAVING CONTRACTIONS--a multi-stop transcontinental flight-- so she could deliver the baby in Alaska. At age 44, she did this (not 17). She did not alert the airline to her condition!!!!

2. She has inadvertently made her pregnant teen daughter a national issue.

3. Perhaps worst of all, she named her boys "Track" and "Trig."

With a baby with Down's Syndrome, and a 43-year-old mother!!!!!! Her pro-family, pro-child decision, taking into account her age and the surprise early delivery, was to finish a thirty-minute speech, ride to the airport, go through airport security to board a commercial jet, fly eight hours from Texas to Alaska with stops, deplane, ride to the Mat-Su Hospital, and then give birth.

I am appalled that she is apparently getting a pass on this. She endangered the life of her unborn child--no sarcasm intended, that is what she did. Stupid or crazy, I cannot imagine acting like this.

Nominating myself--I dragged my 3 yo a few feet in a public park by his feet, while he was screaming for me to stop. He had gotten way to close to someone launching a toy helicopter--a grown up toy one. That someone was asking us to please get away, my son refused, and in my hugely pregnant state I was incapable of picking up his flailing body to physically remove him, so when he dropped into full tantrum on the ground I dragged him. I'm not proud of it.

The lapses can be more than just rare.  Children can be amazingly loyal.

So if Mom dies or leaves, do we take the kids away from Dad because they dont have the  correct "wiring" for child rearing?! Who do you think you are?  This comment is a slap in the face to all fathers.

Where do you people get your information?  Show me anything  that says she leaked this info.  Also, get over yourself and your famiy "shame". The girl made a mistake.  If you dont think your 17 year-old is engaging in this behavior, then you are delusional.  From my experience as a church youth counselor, I can tell you most older teens have busier sex lives than most adults.  If you dont believe that, you have your head buried in the sand.[/quote]

1. Govtauditor, the preview button is your friend.  As you are new, I thought I would direct your attention to it.  It allows you to see your post before it is posted and correct quote boxes and such, making it much easier for everyone else to read it.

2. Zuzu was being sarcastic with all of those posts.  You may want to turn up your sarcasm detector, as it is frequently used on these fora.

Thanks for the tip.  Once it got up, I sort of cringed at its presentation.

I will have to take your word on the sarcasm. I didnt get that and those comments clearly hit a sore spot.  I apologize if I overreacted.

Yes, Govtauditor. The real zuzu is a liberal-minded feminist who has twice worked into her 9th month of pregnancy and taken several flights to interview for TT positions in the 3rd trimester. The real zuzu has on two occasions returned to work two weeks post c-section. The real zuzu is married to a wonderful stay-at-home Dad. And the real zuzu thinks it's no big deal that a 17-year-old has sex.

I am afraid that some of my left-leaning colleagues feel it is OK to throw feminist principles out the window when judging members of the evil GOP. I was attempting to illustrate this point through sarcasm.
