I knew it.

I'm hanging out with a bunch of commie-pinko Islamo-fascist treehuggers and women who don't shave their legs.

But how do they do their hair?

That's really all that matters...

I wash it and put the car windows down to dry it.   I know I have an old razor somewhere in this bottom drawer.  Here is some shaving cream.  Can't quite make out the fine print.  Let see, "best if used before October 1983."

Second, you will tend to find differences among different departments. There are probably more Dems and liberals (whatever that means) in the humanities and social sciences, relatively more GOP and conservatives (whatever that means) in the natural sciences, business, criminal justice, perhaps medicine.

As a natural scientist that would like to keep teaching evolution I think we would fall into the more liberal side of things. I estimate my department is 60-80% liberal.

I think it is pretty sad that, in the US, one needs to connect "anti-evolution" and "conservatism."  (Or evolution and liberalism).  In every other country, being anti-evolution reveals you as a wacko.

As for leg shaving:  I live in Minnesota.  From Septmember to May, nobody sees my legs.

The college I taught at was primarily conservative in Philosophy, Religious Studies, Sociology, Political Science, and Psychology.  There was an active drive to make the Education Department and the English departments more conservative. History was pretty far to the left, but one of the professors was denied tenure, and I suspect partly because of her political views. One professor in Political Science was so obsessed with abortion that he discussed in every course.  Foreign languages people didn't care. Those in the sciences, esp. biology, were very far to the left.

The ultra-Conservative Religious Studies and Philosophy departments were probably the most influential.

Hi:

As a foreigner in this country, I am very curious about the distribution of GOP and democratic party supporters in academia. It is said that half and half in Harvard faculty. Is this typical?

I guess this forum is an appropriate place to ask this. Who can share some insights? :)

I have no idea how many people post on this forum. Given the Elections and SP threads, I'd say the number willing to admit to leaning republican number less than 10. Surely, others probably exist but are smart enough not to post on that thread.   I'd say the number who'd describe themselves as independent would be less than half of the number that clearly are democrats.  If you figure out a total number, you could probably do some math with that non-scientific information.
