What do people think about it?
Useful/Useless? Won't get recognized? A poor-man's way to get to be called 'doctor' (in the case of doctoral online degrees)?

On-line technology is here to stay. For some purposes it's simply cost effective. An on-line degree program will suffer from a "lemons problem", much as the used car market has in the past. |

Actually, the opposite, that is, an online doctorate is a rich person's way of being called doctor, since most are offered by for-profit operations that offer little in the way of funding. Many, if not most people who attend traditional, full time, bricks and mortar doctoral programs at public and non-profit universities attend at little or no cost to themselves. |

Well, that's the problem. It still astonishes me that people feel they can get a job on the basis of an on-line degree, I mean for the degree's sake. The only possible defense of the whole set-up I can imagine is for people who already have a job and want to move up within their institution or company.
Basically, caveat emptor. Sorry. It's hard to find, get, and keep jobs in the present economy even with a diploma from an established brick-and-mortar school.
