I agree with the rest, but #5 is a bit like bringing sand to the beach...

...unless oldassocprof counts meeting a woman on the shuttle ride to the hotel as "bringing your own date" to the conference.

If that's the case, I can agree with all five.

The only way I can make sense of the Grand Canyon between our perceptions of academic conferences is:

1)  conferences differ, or
2)  tastes differ, or
3)  I don't drink enough.

In my field, you'd fall under #3.  If you're looking for it, it's there.  But if you're not looking you won't really see it.
