can anybody tell me how the impact factor is calculated?
Also do the highest tier journals necessarily have the largest impact factors, or can a journal in a "tiny" field have a low impact factor but a great deal of prestige.

Thank you DG. I missed this thread last time. I was able to access the impact factor for the journals I was interested in at my Univ's library after reading the links.
I though that this article that describes how being able to dowload journal articles affects citations to be interesting.
