I just picked up a new teaching gig and this university uses sharepoint portal instead of blackboard.
Does anybody know of any good resources to look at in terms of:
how to configure my classroom pages on sharepoint portal,
limitations and strenghts of sharepoint vs. blackboard,
really excellent pages that others have done on sharepoint that I could perhaps look at?

(It's an honest to God, "live" class, but I'm still planning on posting readings, etc. on sharepoint, perhaps having some discussion posts, and perhaps giving them the option to submit assignments on-line.  My sense is that I really enjoy technology more than the average person teaching at this university -- so I've yet to find that magical person who can't wait to show you all the "neat stuff" he's figured out how to do with the technology.)

Sharepoint is a Microsoft web-creation tool, used for lot more than learning management.  See the Microsoft website for info about using SP; you can also gets books from O'Reilly and such about using SP.

IMHO, SP is ugly but functional.  At least functional for people who are using MSFT Windows, Office, and such.  I'd expect that Mac and Linux users will have problems.
