Not the usual discussion note, but perhaps worth noting anyway: an absolutely first-rate piece of journalism! At the end, though, it might have been worth stressing that even though the simulation team says the film might be of a pileated, the original skilled observer doesn't concede, and for those of us familiar with the recognition skills of a good birder, that's the evidence that can't be dismissed. I'd say it leaves an objective evaluator of evidence with a 95% certainty that, at that time, there was at least one IB alive. Cheers!
