I am working on an essay about working class academics "passing" in the academy. Does anyone know if there are any conduct-type books that might give academics an idea of how they should or should not behave in the workplace, at conferences, etc? I

There are/were also articles in The Radical Teacher about this subject.

Well, somewhat specialized, but I Want to Be a Mathematician by Paul Halmos has a lot of worthwhile how-tos.

Unfortunately, I think conjugate gives good advice.

A lot of academia novels include some comedy-of-manners elements, as well as presenting the 'normal' practices. Try Elaine Showalter's book on faculty fiction.

Standard books on etiquette and workplace manners may be relevant too; I know there are similar themes for when people from working class backgrounds get jobs such as at law firms - they are academically qualified for the field but may not have the background or experience in the social element that goes with it.

I think any good "guide for new faculty" will help you in this regard.  Try something like Good Start by Gerald Gibson, New Faculty by Lucas & Murry, and The Chicago Guide to Your Academic Career by Goldsmith, Komlos, & Gold.
