I have a good friend who is a teacher in Vegas. She wanted to go back to school to get the PhD. She decided on Walden.

Did you also tell her that the University of Nevada Las Vegas is in town, offers part-time PhD programs, and is significantly cheaper than any online university?  They also offer some of their graduate school courses online each semester.  I taught in Vegas.  Walden and Capella are not the only options for graduate school.  I don't think I could even afford them, especially considering my $38,000 teachers' salary was low enough to garner free tuition at UNLV.

Prescott College in Arizona also has a Ph.D. in education (Educational Sustainability) program with a low residencey requirement. http://www.prescott.edu/academics/phd/index.html  I have a few colleagues who are doing this program. Tuition is up there though.

There are a fair number of part-time doctoral programs around the country, with, for example, weekend classes, maybe some online content (hybrids).  In the northeast, GWU has on, as does Pierce U in NH. Bear's Guide is a great resource for a person investigating non-traditional options.

Well that is a different and interesting program. I have never head of sustainability in education or educational sustainability.

This was extremely interesting to me too, Nomad.

A lot of my research deals with community sustainability, urban community sustainability, and social sustainability. Walden U hosts the Conference on Social Change at UMN. Last year, Social Change and Sustainability was the theme.... very eye opening until Rober F. Kennedy Jr. gave a plenary speech that included profane language and his GOD AWFUL CRACKLY VOICE.... omg...  there were thousands present for this speech.... but after about hearing his voice for about 30 minutes.... the Great Exodus began. lol

With all the environmental issues and a screwed economy..... sustainability is a growing topic. What made it so ironic is that this conference was held in the US's most environmentally conscious and friendly city/state.  Minneapolis is a beautiful place..... until winter.

Someplace without "omg" and unnecessary boldface, probably.

Invitation to view commencement.

Commencement Focuses on Future as Global University

Graduates from 19 countries will celebrate their accomplishments on July 26.

Walden University will graduate more than 3,500 students, including the first graduates of the dual-degree program between Walden and Universidad del Valle de Mexico (UVM) on Saturday, July 26.

In the dual-degree program, the first 27 graduates of UVM and Walden will receive a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Walden along with their Licenciatura in Business Administration from UVM. Twenty-four of them, as well as family, friends and officials from Mexico, will attend the Minneapolis graduation and be recognized during the commencement.

Nearly 1,000 students are enrolled in the dual-degree program, evidence of Walden’s commitment to Mexico’s leading higher education institution

Walden University's 40th Commencement Ceremony will be available via live webcast at 1:30pm Central using the following link:

UVM?

Making overblown claims like this only damages Walden's credibility, and by implication, the credibility of non-traditional education in general.

I'm a believer in non-traditional and distance ed, but you hurt our cause and lend weight to our critics when you make statements like this.  I wish you would be more careful.

At what point did the forums become a place to advertise?

You're up early O.

I would think that someone of your "calibre" would understand that this is not an advertisement. WU doesn't gain anything from me posting the link here.... or is that something you're afraid of?  Why not report me to the moderator and let him/her make the decision?

I guess that if I personally knew you and sent an invitation to your house it would be an advertisement?

All institutions announce their commencement exercises. Me posting an announcement for WU's commencement exercises in a forum for Capella and Walden is very fitting. It is an invitation for all in this forum who are interested to witness this awesome occasion.

You have an option not to click the link. You have an option not to watch. You have an option not to ever respond to anything else I post..... (even though I believe you lie awake at night waiting for me to)

Maintaining a monasterial, fridgid reputation does you no good. Being confrontational toward me does you no good. I come in good will and you choose not to accept it each time. .... which is really fine with me.

Based on your posts alone.... you seem to be a very angry and lonely person. And if that is indeed your situation, I wish you nothing but the best. I may be wrong but that's how you come off to me. You definitely don't have my respect and I could care less if I have yours.

Zharkov... don't place judgement. That is from WU's commencement announcement. If you have an issue with it... I suggest that you direct it to the university. If Mexico has a university that you feel or have proof is the leading university... then by please enlighten me. Otherwise.... please direct your issue to WU.

Which begs the question: Why do you feel the need to post, verbatim, a commencement announcement?  What purpose could you have other than to advertise the school?
