If a test of student engagement is administered every year to the same students, isn't there bound to be a drop-off in enthusiasm?  One has to wonder about the researchers degree of engagement in what they are doing - other than routinely running tests.

If you're referring to NSSE, they're not asking whether students are jumping up and down, they're asking things like how often they meet with their faculty outside of class, or their involvement in extracurricular clubs and such.

I thought that this was an interesting - and disturbing - article. I had never thought much about the NSSE before, but our president bought into it whole hog recently so now we're being forced to learn about it quickly. These findings confirm my suspicions, but that doesn't really matter much so long as the senior admin continue to believe in the utility of the data.
