Yes, I saw that it was reported right away, and that reasons were discussed here in the one-offs.

But since those reasons clearly were not sufficient, I wondered what reasons had arisen since.

(Perhaps it has something to do with the OP having lawyered up today, according to new news reports?)

I'm not sure your first assumption is a good one.  It seems more likely either that it took the mods a while to decide or they were just busy.

I would tend to agree with proftowanda. I do not know why it was deleted today; the member-mods are generally not privy to why and how the staff mods make their decisions. But I cannot imagine that it would not be legally safer for the CHE to keep this site from being used as a way to publicize the incident.

VP

You might be right, but I'm struggling to see how the CHE can be liable for anything.  He started the thread, and I'm willing to bet that the conditions of membership that no-one actually reads says something about how the CHE isn't liable for anything ever under any circumstances.

But how much easier for them if they avoid the problem completely by removing the posts, which that same user agreement says that they can do for any reason whatsoever, with or without notification. Why even let it become an issue of liability, when they have the power to avoid it?

VP

That's my thinking on this, and also what I suspect legal counsel (which I imagine is available to CHE, perhaps even on staff) would advise: Minimize potential hassle.  (And that litigant looks to be one with "potential hassle," even if to no real point or potential benefit, emblazoned in bright lights with screaming siren sound effects.)  I even can envision subpoenas for the IPs of commenters and other cr*p to continue this on and on, considering the OP's vision of himself as a freedom fighter for the First Amendment.  (And the Second one, too.)

Re my previous thoughts, about the thread's abrupt removal after lingering here for six days after being reported to mods, those were based upon seeing mods act quite swiftly to swipe threads in other instances.

That is the most awesome photo ever. EVER.

I would actually rather have that photo than the poster under discussion. That's a good trade. I'll keep the photo; the other can go.

Apparently, being "mean" is when you ask for logic and evidence.

I think you should back away from that topic.  If I remember correctly, you know even less about the users of such products.

The university in that thread title overlooks a lake of the same name.  Somehow the name suits the lake better.

OK, then, folk conceptions of the constitution it is. And it's now up to #12.

(Seriously, as I was unloading the dishwasher this morning, I started musing idly about surveys and in-depth interviews and NSF Law and Social Sciences grants and had to reel myself back in.)
