I always knew that math was not fun.

[totally egotistical one-off]

I'm disappointed that more forumites haven't replied to my reply.

That's because I have no idea what you are talking about and I've been gone all day.

What London1 neglected to say, though I am sure she meant to say, was:  "Though I always knew that math was not fun, mathematicians are the coolest people on earth, along with chemists, geologists, biologists, physicists, and [I'm sure she would say this, absolutely sure] anthropologists."

And, of course, I'd have to agree.

The OP is in the humanities and wanted to know what was needed in addition to a done dissertation (your other contribution).  You have experience with one discipline in the humanities and agreed those comments applied to them.  The recommendations I made were applicable and specific to a variety of disciplines in the humanities.  Fields where students are not only discouraged from starting a PhD, but strongly encouraged to come in with a Plan B and then some.  That appears to be what led you to conclude I was not only foreign,* but don't know the difference between a CV and a resume.  This is from a seasoned academic.  An endowed chair, no?  There's a lesson for green grads right there.

PS: If you want to date much younger women, you'll probably have to pay closer attention.**

*not non-native, but truly foreign -- naive and unassimilated

Seriously people, for such an intelligent group, you can all act pretty dumb, sometimes.  You all want this thread to die, right?  Well, posting on it doesn't really achieve that goal now, does it?  Even if you are posting how much you hate it.  Sheesh.

I concur, mouseman.

I would also like to see a cage match on that other thread.  Unfortunately, it would be really boring because the fighters would just taunt one another without landing a punch. Zzzzzzzzz.....

Uh oh. Sounds like the CHE Center For DNFTT needs to do some consciousness-raising here. Please don't make me organize an in-service, people. I don't want to go to it either.

So, you wonder why everybody on the fora is so worried about outing themselves, eh?  You wonder "who cares"?  Interesting, so I guess that's your real name?  Really original of your parents, ending your name with numbers.  Must of been tough in school, which would explain why you're such an ass now.

If not an in-service, how about a retreat?  One with stupid "trust" games and a lot of brainstorming.

I really had to resist the temptation to post to that thread saying that people should not add any more posts after mine, if they were truly decent people.

You do understand that most of us don't consider ourselves in the category of truly decent people.  Personally, I'm more of a "Trying hard unless there's an easy joke to be made" kinda gal.

And that's why I love you, polly_mer.

I'd say I'm halfway decent, which is why my post count is still so low--I'm exercising restraint.
