okay......
You're weird.
Yeah, and.... Oh, wait - did you mean me or a different weirdness? ;) The one-offs lead me to believe I have a lot of catching up to do...or that it was really good I was too busy to read the forum lately. I'm not sure which.

Carp. I found one of the threads in question - I have a Clue Bat and apparently someone needs to be hit by it.
And unrelated: WTF happened here?

Because, you know, that stuff on the syllabus is like, in writing, and there are so many ways you can, like, read that, but when the guys who sit by you in class, like, you know, must know what's really going on, right? -- AmLitHist, channelling student

Thanks for outing yourself. Enough.
That puts things in perspective.
This is the most paranoia-inducing one-off ever. Then consider this: some forumites spend most of their time trying to figure out who you are. They go to great lengths. If they need to. At least two of them are very good at what they do. And there are probably more.

At least two of them are very good at what they do. And there are probably more. And don't forget the lurkers; although there are more and more registered forumites, the number of lurkers vs. forumites on the forum at any given time is often 5:1 or 7:1 or 10:1. (Right now: 11 registered users, 79 guests.) You don't even know who knows who you are. You are in a public forum. You are pseudonymous, but not anonymous. I would bet that most of us who are regular forumites know who at least one other forumite is, either through mutual exchange of information or through recognizing someone through what they post. However, that does not mean that people are out to use the information for nefarious purposes. On more than one occasion I (& others) have been able to let mods or forumites themselves know when they have inadvertently outed themselves through posting something. (You people know who you are.) If you are feeling anxious about this, the solution is to not post anything you would not say under your real name. This is a policy I have followed since I accidentally outed myself several years ago, so I sort of assume I basically *am* posting under my real name. ;) Since I assume I am known, I also don't talk here about any personal situations at work. Here's a nice little rule. Expressing your opinion - good; telling others that their opinion is wrong or invalid - bad.
You're normally a very nice forumite. I don't know why this topic has turned you into a dick. Seriously. Look back on what you wrote and see how obnoxious it is.

Here's a nice little rule. Expressing your opinion - good; telling others that their opinion is wrong or invalid - bad. Pffft. That's just your opinion. It's not like its a scientific law or something. You're normally a very nice forumite. I don't know why this topic has turned you into a dick. Seriously. Look back on what you wrote and see how obnoxious it is.
1) I object to the negative connotation you have evidently assigned dicks. 2) You assume that being obnoxious wasn't the intended purpose. Some of us relish the occasional revel in obnoxiousness.

Point is: this particular person needs to step away from the keyboard/keypad Oh, I didn't think it was related or that I was even involved in any way. I was just poking a little fun at imprecision because I have to go back and teach a late class this afternoon, where I will have to make a conscious effort to refrain from most sarcasm, snarking, and other forms of intellectually-based humor. I assume my fellow forumites can either handle it, pitch an amusing fit, or ignore me. My students aren't so good at any of those things so I go easy on them.
