Has anyone else noticed that all of the Star Trek themes are variations on the original? Those of you that do music as a career, am I wrong? Every single one seems to be a more elaborate variation. The theme "evolves" over time, mutating and becoming more complex. Yet, they are all a variation on the original. If they collected them all into a single CD I think I would be tempted to buy it. It's an interesting progression.
For $80 you can have the 7 CD set. No idea how reliable it is, but the wikipedia entry on Star Wars music is fascinating. Since the question was about Star Trek and not Star Wars, the Wikipedia entry for the Star Trek theme might be more helpful. It claims that the "fanfare" from the original series is quoted at some point in all of the movie and television program scores. That (and a healthy dose of Aaron Copland for DS9) sounds about right to me from the ones I know, though I'll admit to never watching Enterprise. Too funny! I do need new bifocals. I did have fun looking that stuff up. The new Star Trek (2009) movie used the old TV theme on the closing credits, which were amazingly done. I did like the music for the 2009 movie in general.

Vox said it about someone and something else the other day: do you really not realize you're doing it? Maybe we should all reciprocate and routinely invoke your name, apropos of nothing, to signal our general dislike for you/r moniker.
Sorry, but I have to say it: this post exemplifies, word by word, why the general public thinks what it thinks of academics, and explains how administrators always get the best of us now and again. Speaking of nicknames, yours is strangely appropriate here.

Do they think that about me, since I'm still a grad student? (These are genuine questions, not snarkies, despite this being the One-offs thread). When I was choosing my fora-name, I went back and forth between wet_blanket and happy_rays_of_sunshine_in_a_world_made_of_fluffy_pink_marshmallows. Maybe I'll change it now.

I found a funny little shop last weekend in the city that had (among other wondrous things that one might need) band-aids with pink unicorns and rainbows, and also Jesus band-aids!

I couldn't have come up with a better argument for the "ignore user" function if I had tried. Srsly. VP

I couldn't have come up with a better argument for the "ignore user" function if I had tried. Srsly. VP You couldn't start soon enough, AFAIC Well, then, for heaven's sake, lend your voice to the argument! I want to ignore people; people want to ignore me. That's win-win as far as I'm concerned. PM the mods and request that they activate the Ignore User function that already exists in the software. If you think I'm full of s***, then by all means you should have the ability to ignore my posts. I'm completely serious. VP

I heartily agree, but would add that I feel blissful in my ignorance.
As such, I also have no idea whether or not this is related to previous posts.
Ahhh, so this is how my students feel when they see my mouth moving.
