Frequently there are occasions here on the fora in which you might like to interject one pithy or annoyed comment into a thread, but you doesn't want to get sucked into an argument, have that thread turn up forever on your "show replies to your posts" page, get dragged into a general trainwreck, or publicly announce your association with an unpopular opinion or action.

This thread is for the one-offs you would like to post in other threads but are choosing not to.

You may identify the thread if you like, but it is not necessary (and in fact we might be better off not).

Here's my first one:

Do you really, really want to go there?

Are you really? Doubt it, but whatever you say.

(thanks, VP)

OK, I think a lot of the subjects in Meet and Greet Threads sound inane, silly, or desperate to make conversation no matter how silly or inane.

I am not tempted to post on them or even read them.

Which means I'm missing out on life's treasures, I guess.

I probably didn't follow the directions correctly on this thread, either.

  • That's like a hedgehog trapped in a vat of glue.
  • Good luck with that.
  • Have you tried the search engine?
  • No gratuitous Harry Potter references, please.  They annoy the Foracle.
  • No, we're not going to reveal our aliases.  Sorry.

That's OK. In the throes of editing (and they were very throe-y, indeed), I ended up writing "you doesn't" in my OP. I will assume that you were unable to come up with an appropriate response in the face of such grammatical horror. I can barely stand to look at it, myself.

1. I am tired of hearing you raise your personal suffering to a level of valor and courage not seen on this earth since at least Chancellorsville.  Call me when you need 40 stitches, have a gunshot wound or suffer from something you didn't *actively* bring on yourself.

2. What he said and what she said (two pages ago).  You are not going to get a different answer that justifies your actions---oh, until, as you are probably trying to do, attract the people who will pet you like a virtual cat and tell you that you are wonderful (maybe a little wrong) but, more importantly *a wonderful, wonderful person." And that will give you the permission you are seeking to continue acting poorly toward your colleague.

3. I'd *love* to hear his side of the story.

4. That's hilarious. I don't think its supposed to be but its hilarious.

5. No, *he's * not a "crybaby" you are a bully.

6. If you can't tell the difference you are either willfully ignorant or just plain stupid.

7. Yes, actually I would and you probably would too but you are working on some sort of "good person" persona. Good luck with that.

Yeah. What l_g said. We are probably refering to 2 different threads, but hey, it's the thought that counts. :-)

l_g took all of mine - must be channeling the same levels of sarcasm and outrage...yet a few come to mind:

1.  Why don't you take that argument to someone who cares?

2.  Do you really think this is the right place for a specious theological rant?

3.  That was fantastic.  Thank you for the laughs!

4.  Ah yes, now I understand.  Please don't have children. That type of idiocy is probably genetic.

This is the most cathartic thread ever.

Oh, and *you*? I realize we all have a tendency to extrapolate from personal experience to the general social experience. Usually we are wrong or at least rude when we do that. I don't care which you actually are, grow up.

And, on that other thread? You remain the most unintentionally funny member of the forum.  Thanks for two years of hilarity.
