Cell phones in Mexico
«

Can one use Mexican SIM cards on American cell phones? I understand that in the US they are capped to work with a specific brand.
I travel to Mexico often and I know that you can put the SIM card of a national company on a European or Indian phone. Alas, I only have two T-Mobile phones with me at the moment.
Thanks.

You need to get an unlocked phone. unlocked = can be used with any SIM, not just the branded carrier's. If you are a T-Mobile customer, T-Mobile will supposedly unlock the phone for you (with limitations - one every six months, or after the phone is six months old, or something like that) at a store.
