I'm feeling lucky with the number 54 if it isn't already taken.  This is a great idea!

It sounds like these are the engineer-wannabe's so it should be fairly high.  I would say 50% of the C's will try to get that B, convinced that it will secure their spot as and engineer (54) and 25% of the B's will try to get A's to boost their chances (26).  In addition, 2 of the D's will try for a B and one of the F's will beg for an A.  Total, 83.

I hope it's not to late to ask for some clarification, perhaps?

Pre-meds or not?

Public or private school?

Does anyone have 27 yet? If not, put that down for me.

Ooops wait, ofu_tofu has 27, 26 is also taken how about 25 or 28?

Let's make it 28.

I'd say about 1/8 - 1/4 pre-meds and it's a private school

To keep it interesting here is a recent desperate e-mail/rant:

"I spent 20+ hours studying for this final exam and I was shooting to get a grade good enough to get a B, never would I have thought that a D would be a possibility. I took pages upon pages of notes and revied the ones that I took in class as well as did the practice problems that you provided for us in order to study for that exam. I attended your lectures besides the three that week I was sick and took good notes on them. The final exam really came at me as a curveball and many of the questions I had not expected. If you could please show some mercy for me, you would not hear about it from other students who want to boost their grade. I recieved a 111/160 and missed the 70% by a mere 0.625%."

This particular student has also sent several other e-mails as well as a phone call..... this is the 3rd of a flurry - don't you like how he thinks nothing of asking me to change HIS grade and he'll keep it all "hush-hush"  HA!

Thanks for the clarification.

I had a similar situation a week or so ago.  The emails (he had sent 3) finally stopped when I brought up the fact that he was asking me to LIE on his behalf.  I don't know if this would work in other schools (the students have a pretty strong honor code here with actual consequences) but I was impressed at the following silence.
