Via a complicated formula (it included eigenvectors, factorials and imaginary numbers).  I arrived at a predicted value of 11.4.  I'm rounding my bet up to 12.  (That is, emails from 12 different students.  Some of them may send a barrage of pleas/threats.)

Yes, I'll only count the first e-mail.

I am going optimistically low and will say 9 (did someone already say 9? I don't think anyone said 9.)

Thanks for your optimism!  9 is yours.

The pool is up to $135.00.

$135.-? Mmhh ... that's a medium-nice pair of shoes.

Any e-mails come in yet? Will you post as they arrive? Or do we really have to wait until Saturday?

I'm going low.  Seven (7) actual grade grubbing emails.

My guess is 57.

I've had my own desperate emails coming in fast and furious all day.  It's so fatiguing reading and responding to them, knowing that their grades could have been much better if they had just read the syllabus and the detailed assignment instructions posted on the course website. I think I've heard every excuse in the book and these are GRAD students. The winner in my class - a student who admitted that he didn't read the syllabus until last week and realized that he missed posting all of the weekly discussion thread assignments AND a paper that was due in March. These omissions cost him 30% of his grade and he failed the course.

Gin and tonic, anyone???

Yes, some have come in here is a funny one - this is the entire e-mail word for word:

I was wonderinge do you round grades up? I have an 89.4%

My reply:  Why yes, I do, however 89.4% rounded does in fact = 89%.

Through the magic of http://hamete.org/dserver/dice, I predict 62.

Mme. LF should get in on the action.
