Can I spread my bet?

I'd say about 10 serious, you-ruined-my-life complaints

Probably five can-you-check-that-doesn't-sound-right (see how reasonable I am?) covert complaints

And I'll go for three in September and one more just before that student graduates.

I think that's 19 *counts on fingers; hey, she's a social scientist* yup, 19.

Great diversion!

I'll go with 11. Maybe a couple of phone calls in addition?

I'll take 35 - including two of the "F" students pleading for mercy.

Via a complicated formula (it included eigenvectors, factorials and imaginary numbers).  I arrived at a predicted value of 11.4.  I'm rounding my bet up to 12.  (That is, emails from 12 different students.  Some of them may send a barrage of pleas/threats.)

Using a complicated formula of approx. 1/2 of the C's and 2/3 of the Ds/Fs will complain, and then being even more conservative in my final estimate (what can I say, I'm an optimist!), I guess...

I am going optimistically low and will say 9 (did someone already say 9? I don't think anyone said 9.)

15 unambiguous ones (not counting "back and forths" with the same student).
