I think the fora might be saving my sanity.

Not for me!

Whoo-whoo-whoo-whoo-whoo-whoo-whoo-whoo-whoo-whoo-whoo-whoo!

Did you ever have any sanity to save, GH? ;)

I've been aware of the CHE fora for some time (lurker!), but got up the nerve to begin posting a little over a week ago. I've been a neglecting all other duties and responsibilities to read read read, and noticed this thread.

And I notice that you have post, post, posted.  Over two hundred posts in a week and many of them pertinent to the topics at hand.  Not bad.

Have a whole basket of s'mores and welcome.

It's a good thing lizzy registered back in 2007, or else she might have given you a run for your money on fastest ascent to DSM!

Morning all.

I'm new here. Fresh out of my MA program in Social and Cultural Analysis of Ed. We’ve moved to the frigid NE from sunny CA. Now I'm working some lame temp office job to pay bills while my SO goes to grad school (we're taking turns and she worked in petroleum for me!), so I'm reading the forum to prepare for my next stint (PhD applications will be next fall) in grad school... also to kill time.

Best.

P.S. What does STFU mean?

Welcome, wannabeaphd!  The fora is a great place for career advice (it will be honest and fair) and also to goof off.

STFU = Shut the Fu@* Up!  (advice given to tenure-track faculty as they navigate the tenure waters at their universities).

Welcome--and for your newbie pack, let's see....how about: a white plastic hardhat, a topographic survey map, and an everything-energy bar (with your choice of dark or milk or white chocolate). I think Poly has the s'mores going around as well--help yourself!

Anyway, welcome pokerschule and wannabeaphd (are you sure about that?).  I'm on my way to the hiding thread with some more brownies, so here are a couple for you.

I've just joined today, so I'd like to introduce myself.

I finished my Ph.D. from an EU university in 2006, was doing a three-year post-doc in Britain, but quit early as a political protest (basically, they hired someone to the British equivalent of a T-T position who hadn't got her Ph.D. yet, ignoring the 280 other applicants who had all finished their Ph.D.'s. She was also a rather close with friend with some members of the SC).

My Ph.D. is in English literature, but I've also published on history and hope to move more into that field.

I'm currently doing a visiting professorship in Seoul and looking at whatever T-T options might be available. My wife is Korean, which is how I ended up here.

This website is a godsend for me--I've never had many friends, and I try to stay away from academics for obvious reasons, so I've always been out of the loop. Being in Korea has obviously compounded this.

So, for your welcome kit, a beanie with a Rube Goldberg communications station on top, a Dick Tracy-style wristwatch, and a certificate for 100,000 frequent flyer miles in addition to the ones you must already have.

Wilkommen! Bienvenu! Welcome!
