Oh, may I join you all? I think I'm much slower than many here, as my writing goals for summer are more modest--I'd really just like to get one article completed and submitted to the major journal in my field, and I'd like to make serious headway on the research for my second book. My summer hasn't officially started, though--this is our last week of classes, and next week will be devoted to grading. And then I'll have some family visits to take care of. But I should be able to get started with real work by early June.

No rest for the wicked! Well, there is the Maine meaning for 'wicked'. "That boy is wicked fast" "My brother is wicked stupid" "That blueberry pie was wicked good" I lived Downeast for a few years . . . I did not accomplish much, but I got in some wonderful sightseeing.

I think I'm much slower than many here Oh, not necessarily! My semester ended a few weeks ago, plus I'm a big ol' snail when it comes to writing. I hope this thread will motivate me to speed up a little.

I'm happy about this thread--maybe it will make me more of a regular around here! At least stating my goals for the summer makes them more real. I have 2 articles to polish before heading off for a research trip. I've been working on these for a while and think they should be ready in the next 3 weeks or so.
Then, I plan to finish research on a third article and do some further research for my book (i.e. diss revisions) while on my research trip.
Finally, when I get back, I'll finish the third article and a conference paper, while integrating my new research into the book project.
It is a ton of work but I'm going to get through it all step by step, so right now I'm off to work on article one before lunch. Best wishes to all for a productive day!

Good morning to the happy (or not) writers!
Glad to see I'm not the only one with ambitious summer plans AND not the only one with good procrastination reasons build in!
SciencePhD, I think if you use periods between the letters, the program won't be able to star it out. I, for one, am now curious about the mystery word :)
I'm headed to the office. We have a departmental good-bye reception at noon and I'm going to use the time before that to compare my office and laptop Endnote content and print out some articles (I bought two cartridges on my own just to print without feeling guilty).
After the face-time event, I'm headed either to Ace or WalMart for food and household goodies. Plus I need to check their office section for organizational goodies; I work better when physically organized; it doesn't last long, but it's a great procrastination excuse.

Mystery word: a.s.s.c.l.own. Every single letter was censored ! The irony is, it is a word that I learned on the fora. It must have been spelled differently. So I'm being corrupted and censored at the same time.

FarAway is in Latin America. I'm really ready to get there and get on with the research, but there's a lot of prep work I need to do before I leave.
This is our last week of classes, so I'm mostly coasting. Getting finals ready doesn't take much mental energy, so I need to really step up the research and writing. I've always liked the last week of the semester/finals week except for the grading - I feel like I have a second wind. I had better go and get on with it. I need to review a few books/articles for information for my R&R, add the info in where necessary, and then start thinking more specifically about my new project that I'll be working on in FarAway.
I'm glad you're all here, and think this thread will motivate me. I hope your projects are going.

OK, count me in!
Here's my list of writing to accomplish this summer: 1. Paper for August conference presentation (DUE: May 30) 2. Article 1 - results part 1 from diss 3. Article 2 - results part 2 from diss 4. Article 3 - theory from diss 5. Article 4 - methods from diss
Today I went to a campus development class offered by IT on MS Project 2007. I think it'll be quite helpful for me - I get lost in the big picture sometimes. With Project, you have to set up all the steps and corresponding dates, which will help me identify/break-down the steps and when they are due.
I'll also be posting regularly on the PA thread. :-)
ps - I've seen a$$clown on the thread.

I am so glad you all got that spelling mystery figured out ;)
The loot from my office computer runs at around 20 articles. The loot from WalMart did not include any procrastination items (the only thing they had from my list was a hoe and packets of seeds - it's a small WalMart), but more hanging file folders so that I can pretend to be organized.
Haven't written a stitch today. But will now read and distribute. Yellow highlighters are my friends*. Our secretary made me take home the left-over bag of chips - brain food!
Is Project 2007 similar to Entourage?
I haven't been to Latin America in quite a while. Come to think of it, I haven't been out of this country for quite a while. Must write grant. But not this summer.
*I have no life. I could at least get green ones once in a while.

From the description of Entourage I just found from Google, no, it is not. Entourage sounds a lot like MS OneNote, in which you can compile and manage information. MS Project is software to manage a project's design and deployment - tasks, timelines, that sort of thing. If you're looking for project management software for the Mac, I'm sorry I can't help, but a Google search might. :-)

So, I have opened the chapter that I was working on, and am now trying to make the style files work. Sooner or later, no doubt I'll get to where I can actually make some progress.

Hello everybody-- is there room for one more?
Here is my list of summer writing:
Write a conference paper Revise and resubmit two long overdue articles Write a book proposal (my first one) Revise two chapters of my dissertation to go with book proposal
Somehow I'm less intimidated with this thread as opposed to the PA thread... Anyway, I would like to provide updates every other day. But, of course, I will be checking it daily for morale and support. Good luck, all!

Oh, I can waste spend hours, nay, days setting things up juuuust right. There is a method to my madness, though; I really do work better when organized and when I like everything "technical" (font, size, which side of screen, where does the coffee mug fit, and no, cat hair does not improve the look of either screen or keyboard). A formatting fight with Endnote can set me back hours.
I once came home early from the office, with the intent to work at home (there was a band setting up around the corner; don't ask). I checked my e-mail and then opened the file.
Then I decided to go out and dig some flower beds.
Five hours, two flower beds, and a bath later, I closed the file again.
Ah, that was a productive afternoon!
On Preview: Hi stillstanding, come on in!
