Rejected again today. Wah.
One review was short but overwhelmingly positive:
"Great paper!" they said.
"I'd use it in class!" they said. "
Great policy recommendations!" they said

My article doesn't contain any policy recommendations.
What (if anything) should I do about this?
Argh! Sorry about this ex-mo. Unfortunately, there is really little you can do. You might contact the editor to ask if there are any more in depth suggestions but that's about it. Argh! |

Just got the contract for book 3 last night-- they have given me until July of next year to get it done (revising an already complete manuscript). At least I won't feel like I have to rush this one, so I can also work on two related articles from leftover material.
Also finishing revisions to book 2 to get it to the publisher by the end of the month-- the major task is to go to foreign country archives here in the next week or so and get some high quality photo files.

Amazing Betterslac! That's really great news.
I'm sorry about the rejections Ufo_Tofu, Greyscale, ExMo -- it happens to all of us (clearly!) but it still burns.
At the moment I'm finishing up more background reading to fix up my last rejected article so I can resubmit it elsewhere. Its still painful to look at it and work on it, even though its been a while.

Thanks, ufo and crumpet. These are manuscripts that have been in the works for several years and I have been in a position the past year or so (with a much reduced teaching load) to finally get them out the door.
There is an amazing difference between teaching 1-2 courses a term and 3-4 courses.

It looks like my manuscript is out for review! Last week's attempt was an insta-reject without review, so this feels nice and validating. I've probably been aiming too high, and I don't want to get my hopes up, but seeing reviews will be nice.
Have any of you published in brand-new journals? This journal only has one issue so far. It's a spinoff of a bigger journal. They're being really selective and I'm impressed by the quality, but I'm worried that it might fold or that people will assume it's lower impact than it is.
Betterslac, it sounds like you're on a roll!

Revisions on article done and submitted to editor. Teaching for the rest of today, then tomorrow it's back to the book manuscript.

I am in the middle of revising the article that was rejected a few weeks ago and got an R&R on another today.
So that's movement!
Also, I just put in my IRB application on a completely separate project that is totally outside my comfort zone.

Reviewer #1 said my paper went off the deep end.
Not the usual reaction I get to this project! At least the editor asked us for a rebuttal before she decides whether to reject it.
Can't quite figure out who the reviewer was, either.

I just found this thread! How I missed it before I have no idea. But I am in the position to contribute.
Working on my first manuscript. I am about half way finished. The whole manuscript needs to be completed by August at my 4th year review. I am currently sitting in a Starbucks in California working for a few hours. It is hard to make the time while visiting my favorite place on earth and spending time with lots of family members and hanging out with my toddler. This quiet break with a yummy vanilla chair is just what I needed.

So, I feel like an idiot. I submitted an article some months ago to a journal that still requires hard copy submission. What I failed to notice was that they ask for return postage with all submissions. Oops. I received a notice that the journal had received the article about three months ago, but I'm still within the expected time between submission and response. Should I contact the editor or anything and offer to send the return postage? Or will they contact me after they've made a decision? Or did I just shoot myself in the foot altogether?

Believe me, you are not the first one to make such a minor error. Why not wait out the time for the response and then contact them? Or, to be quite honest, you can do that now, apologize and ask them if they would like you to send it. |
