I am inviting other forumites over to this new thread, largely out of mercy for whoever may work at BU and is tired of seeing their institution lit up with the unholy halo of hypothetical shame day after day.

I'm not sure what we might want to do over here -- we could continue debating what happens logistically when you get banned.  How the mods could ever really ban anyone permanently (thank you, pry, for filling in some of the blanks) if you can just hop over to another IP without too much trouble, e.g.

I personally feel we have not exhausted the absolutely crucial importance of shoes and cats as they relate to the noble efforts of diversifying our profession.  We do want this thread to be relevant in some fashion to the Forum, after all.

Or we could talk about why this forum persists in being largely a dysfunctional mess.  That sounds like fun in my book!

Btw, I have no idea what the provenance of Fiork University is, except that a few forumites have etched this surely august institution into their profiles.

Should this university have a minor (or, dare I dream, a Major?) in Shoe Studies, I'm your cat! Accreditation would, of course have to be either through Zappos.com or Shoes.com.

Conversely, should you offer a minor (major?) in Feline Studies, my shoes could certainly carry me through this.

And there's always the Interdisciplinary Cats with Shoes possibility.

The IP angle is interesting.  Most people in an office at a university will have a static IP.  But at home, most will probably have a floating IP.

The thing with trainwrecks is, there needs to be some momentum first.

Well, pumpkin, have you ever tried to shoe a cat?  I haven't, but I can imagine the scenario pretty well.  At least with my own feline companions.

I'm waiting on the Fiork explanation.

See moniker? Imagine shoes.

Assuming, of course, that the one-way see-me-through-iSight doesn't work.

Oh good, it's off.

Good grief, you sound like one of the search committees I met last year!

The right path, of course!

I have, without intent, stepped on cats. This is not an experience I wish to repeat.

Of course, I just now swatted my cat with the flyswatter - she KNOWS she's not supposed to bring anything in, much less a bird. And this one was dead. Well, there goes her shoe allowance!

Cats were built for stepping on.  Mine love it.

Have we established the shame spiral of Fiork?  Are they engaging in rampant cat and shoe abuse?  Low stats on lesbian Persian hires?  All of the above?

What we have here is the typical misogyny .... aahh ... ailurophobia ... no, wait ... mis-ailuro... anyway, the oh so typical abusive behavior of the "hard" sciences (hard? what are they? eggs?) against a struggling new field of study whose courageous analysis of the day's most grievous social justice issue, to wit, the struggles of feline shoes or shod felines or, in the immortal words of our revered undergraduate intelligentsia, "whatever," is callously attacked by threats of "stepping on." A threat, as you, my esteemed colleagues, know only too well, which is merely a smokescreen to hide an all out assault on all interdisciplinary thought, joint action, and a budget increase for program directors.

I shudder to even contemplate what might happen to our dear, beloved sisters, the lesbian Persians. Last we saw them, their program office was moved to behind the boiler room. We are prostate with grief.

I looked on FU's website, and their department of Shoe Studies has no Serbians.  I know for a fact that most Serbians do indeed wear shoes.  It would therefore be easy to hire a Serbian qualified to work in this department if they really wanted to do something about diversity on their campus.  Disgusting.

For context: I'm white, so clearly I cannot be racist if I call others out on their racism.  And I am very, very angry.

Damn! It's those science people, stepping on tails, making me twitch while typing.

Prostrate with grief, prostRate!

As a public service message, physical science will absolutely NOT be more biology centered than physics.

Physical science covers not just physics, but also chemistry, all the earth sciences (think geology), and astronomy.

Is it "easier" than physics?  Yes, if one is good at those other areas, but not physics specifically.

For those careful (or unlucky) readers, the nearly hidden spam embedded in the previous post has been reported.
