As usual, administrators say that only faculty salaries--not their own--affect the college's budget. Administrative staff's pay raises, on national average, have now beaten inflation for eleven consecutive years--unlike faculty pay, which is only 1/4 of 1% higher, after inflation, than it was twenty years ago. Not to mention that tenure-track and fulltime faculty numbers continue to shrink, while non-instructional staff numbers continue to grow. The arithmetic here is very simple, and the data readily accessible; what will it take to get it generally recognized in the academic press (much less the national media)?
