minor hijack:
Claragold, my camera used to do that long pause as well, but there is a way to change it on mine: go into the menu that controls how long the photo you just took is displayed on the screen on the back and change it to zero (or 1 sec). The delay (as least on models I've played with) is because the camera gives you time to look at the photo you just took and decide if you like it.
They also make table-top camera-holders (not really a tripod -- the camera hangs over the document). There's a name for these, but my brain is so fried that I can't think of it right now.
Thanks for all the tips. I think I bought the too cheap model, I looked for it in the camera and also in the manual, and I couldn't find an option to change the time delay setting. I'll look into the table-top camera-holders as well. I need a secretary and an office-boy to take care of scanning my texts and such things... sigh

How is everyone doing? I think I may have actually avoided a flare last week--am very proud of myself!

Good news! I am so happy the term is over and my body is in complete agreement. I've been able to sleep for a change, which is a nice thing, though my allergies are in full swing. Makes me more wheezy than usual, but gives me a better excuse for being wheezy so it all works out in the end.
How is everyone else?

We still have four weeks to go. Imagine the stock cartoon man in rags dragging himself across the desert (probably towards an oasis that turns out to be a mirage). I am only staying relatively health by getting infernal amounts of sleep, which means a host of things are screamingly overdue -- and 80 students papers are coming in tomorrow. Calgon, take me away!

Like Lenniel, I'm wheezy with allergies, and cranky because the increased oral steroids aren't helping yet, but are giving me the usual side effects (headaches, one long continual menstrual cycle, and so on).
On a brighter note, I'm sleeping lots, and beginning to be able to take an interest in our move and my new job!

This is so helpful. It feels isolating as a someone fairly new on the TT and being sick and not wanting the department to think you're going to be unable to pull your fair load. I have a fairly rare type of colitis. This year has been really good until this weekend, but it's flaring up and I have 3 weeks of classes left. I really don't want to go on prednisone while teaching. I don't sleep much (2-4 hours a night) while on prednisone and get really spacy.

I'm having some trouble with depression that feels clinical. Now that the semester's over, I'm feeling better physically.

Hey clara, hegemony, threadkiller, lenniel, MsP, and all others:
The semester has been over here for a few weeks, and I am visiting family and my partner for 10 days. I am sleeping better (nice with another body), sleeping on my water bed (which I have greatly missed), and sleeping as much as I need.
While partner is at work, I have been rebooting my brain and my enthusiasm, and doing water aerobics. It feels good to stretch my body and let my mind mend. Partner is treating me with a massage as a reward for my first fulltime semester.
Be well, everyone reading this thread!!

I'm hoping to avoid a huge crash this week. I've had a triple whammy of emotional stressors, capped off by an old mentor literally disappearing into the wilderness.
I think gourmetless has the right idea: extra rest when you can get it. I think I'm going to bed early tonight, and taking enough meds to make sure I sleep.

Hi all!
Hegemony and cyano, we're pulling for you...you can make it and do take care of yourselves. Sleep is the most important thing.
Glad all are doing what is necessary to stay healthy, and also keep some semblance of sanity. The end of the term is sometimes depressing, I think, until we get used to the pace of summer.
I'm sorry about the stress, kissa mau and I wonder if gourmetless will share the talents of partner??? I've been relying on my two favorite forms of therapy these days: killing weeds in my mother's garden (her garden is more like land reclamation than a gardening project) and spring cleaning. Hmmm. no wonder my allergies are bad....:) I also put her cats on a diet, which they resent, but they look like hairy bowling balls and barf a lot. Now, they go outside and don't barf as much.
Clearly, my life is riviting! Actually, the mindless cleaning interspersed with catching up and loafing has been good, though I am looking forward to getting back to work soon.
Stay well, everyone!

Hi, all---thanks for your good wishes upthread. Now post hospital, am doing better, the post-steroid crash seems to be over, and I wanted to second gourmetless's recommendation for water aerobics. Good grief, I thought it was going to be a silly thing, splashing around in the pool with the elderfolk, but it's actually a good workout, and yet does no harm. (and the elderfolk kick a$$! I hope I live so long and do so well.) And elsie, I thought of you on this especially, since I actually felt my brain work differently after a couple of sessions----they say exercise induces endorphins, which help the chemistry in there. Depression is a real issue for us...would water aerobics be any good for you? Anyway, I'm thinking of you, and all of the rest of us, and sending good thoughts out. It helps not to feel so alone! When I'm not up to posting I still feel much helped by reading you all; thanks. So the summer plan is: water aerobics, gentle cleaning out of the house/closets/garage, daily academic work but not in any kind of frenzy. "Gentle" is the keyword these days.

I need to find a good water aerobics class locally. When I was in grad school, there was a good one at the YWCA, but locally I've had trouble finding a warm water class.

Hello gourmetless, Nice to hear you're getting that needed vacation and lots of rest! I have a hellish week still to go through and then I will need to give myself at least a couple of days off. In any case, I am here intensely counting down the minutes! Congratulations on your semester! I really enjoy any activity that has to do with water too, from swimming to sailing, just the contact with water already makes me feel better. I wish you a wonderful rest of your vacation!

I didn't know about water aerobics - what a great tip! Many thanks! Having my butt kicked by the elderly is not new to me. When I used to run, I often got lapped by the feisty 60 year olds, though I did elbow my way past the 80 year old lady from Sweden in the NY marathon. Ah, good times...
Feeling the end of semester blues myself and the "I need two jobs this summer to eat" as well. Fortunately, I have one job lined up; just have to find the other. Hopefully, health will hold out so I can do it! The better half is already being sarcastic about my expectations, so I may have to actually listen.
Good luck everyone finishing up - you are one day closer to the end of the school year!

Call the Arthritis Foundation. They keep a pretty good list.
