I had a rice sock thing and it was supposed to be heated for one minute only.

I tried to find buckwheat. I'm beginning to think this town doesn't have anything useful.
If I leave it in there for only one minute, it is barely warm. OLD microwave. Of course, mine is a long tube sock. Decent size.
And if mine gets stinky like that, I'll put it in the stainless sink and run water over it. I don't think my landlady would appreciate my burning the place down.

.... cough... snort.... If you're looking for a dry heat sans buckwheat, an old microwave, and flammable rice, you might have better luck warming some dried beans in a standard oven and then gathering them in a towel (or something).

I'm really sorry - it could have been a buckwheat sock that burned the house down, not rice. I guess at the time I was more interested in the safety of her children (smoke inhalation - full recovery) than the gramene taxonomy.

I have a couple buckwheat-hull bags, and my mom has a rice sock. For any of them, we dampen them first with water (spray bottle, or a quick pass under the faucet) and then nuke for ~3 minutes on high. We've never had a problem with them scorching.

I'll try to remember that. Hmm.

I also had an imprompto "tour" of the campus... picture bugs bunny popping up, pulling out the map, and saying, "I should have taken the left turn at Alburquerque." After a rescue call, I was also subjected to the "just follow us" vehicle endurance test. I passed. I learned that my son is a sneak when playing tag with Genni and that 3 loud kids can lead to some very worn out cats.

It was actually faster and had fewer red lights, I swear! There is NO direct way to get anywhere in this town! That's what we get for living in town laid out on cowpaths! And I believe the cats are finally recovered. They've stopped running away as soon as they see Genni, anyway! :D

It's only about 5 hours by car; that will be just great with small children, right? Right? (Okay, no, I haven't quite forgotten!)

In a car. Just shoot me now. Well, on the other hand, if you get us a portable DVD player, we'll attach it to the back of the seat and keep putting princess movies in it. That will take care of it!

Did everyone survive Thanksgiving? :)
I discovered that my guts get messed up the day after I fly. Good thing to know for the future, I suppose. Hopefully as I get better that will be less of a problem... we'll see.

Yep. We survived. I think!
Well, as if my chronic issues weren't enough, GD's have flared up. He finally went for his annual (semi-annual?) visit to the gastroenterologist yesterday. He is scheduled for an upper GI on the 8th, and a lower one on the 15th. Can someone please explain to me the logic behind the insurance refusing to pay for them both to be done on the same day?
I'm just worried that his achalasia has gotten bad enough to require the esophagus surgery now. I hope not.

Yes, as in I made it through. No, as in I made it through a "not quite major" episode. Panic attacks, extreme irritability, and absolute flatness are such fun. Yep. We survived. I think!
